Chapter 81: A Life-Saving Grace
“He’s here, please wait a moment.” The receptionist smiled politely, then picked up the phone and dialed Director Zhao’s office upstairs.
A moment later, she hung up, stepped out from behind the counter, and invited, “Assistant Xue, please follow me.”
“All right,” Xue Siyu replied, nodding as she followed behind.
Soon, they reached the door of an office. The receptionist opened it, and Xue Siyu and Lin Feng entered together.
Inside, sitting behind his desk, was a middle-aged man in a suit, a string of sandalwood beads around his wrist, quietly sipping tea alone.
This was Zhao Kang.
“Assistant Xue, we meet again. What brings you here today?” Zhao Kang gave Xue Siyu a once-over and asked with a smile.
“Director Zhao, the loan you owe our bank is already two months overdue. When do you plan to repay it?” Xue Siyu went straight to the point.
“Oh, is that so? And this is…?” Zhao Kang was about to answer, but suddenly noticed Lin Feng standing by and asked sternly.
“He’s a friend of our President Su,” Xue Siyu replied bluntly.
“I see. Please, both of you, have a seat.”
Zhao Kang was quite courteous, personally pouring two cups of tea and handing them to Xue Siyu and Lin Feng.
When Lin Feng’s gaze fell on the beads around Zhao Kang’s wrist, his expression shifted slightly.
After pouring the tea, Zhao Kang gave a wry smile. “Assistant Xue, you know my building materials company hasn’t been doing well lately. If I could have repaid, I would have long ago.”
“How about this? Give me another month’s extension. I promise to pay back the principal and interest in full by then.”
“Director Zhao, I’m afraid that’s against the rules. When you signed the contract, you assured us you’d repay within a month. This is already the second time you’ve gone back on your word.”
“Our President Su said if you don’t pay back, we’ll have no choice but to protect our rights through legal means,” Xue Siyu replied coldly.
“Come on, Assistant Xue, given my relationship with President Su, do you really think she’d sue me? Just tell her I promise to repay within a month. You and this young gentleman can go back for now,” Zhao Kang said with a smile as he got up, clearly intending to see them out.
Xue Siyu looked helpless; every time she came, he said the same thing, but never paid up when the time came.
Just then, Lin Feng spoke up. “Director Zhao, have you been having frequent nightmares lately? And each time, you feel paralyzed in your sleep?”
“When you wake, you feel utterly drained, as if you’d just finished some exhausting labor.”
“How did you know that?”
Zhao Kang’s expression was one of shock as he asked, “Are you a doctor?”
“I know a bit of medicine, but what you have isn’t something a doctor can cure. You’ve been afflicted by evil energy. Only by dispelling it can you recover, or it could threaten your life.”
“That serious?”
Zhao Kang’s heart skipped a beat. He had in fact seen doctors, but none could diagnose or treat his condition.
He was astonished that this young man could deduce his symptoms at a single glance!
“Young man, do you have a way to cure me? If you can heal me, I’ll repay you at once—no, I’ll pay double the interest.”
In a show of sincerity, Zhao Kang turned to Lin Feng and pleaded.
At that moment, Xue Siyu’s beautiful eyes widened in disbelief as she looked at Lin Feng.
Who would have thought the notoriously stingy Director Zhao would suddenly become so generous at Lin Feng’s words?
But…
Did Lin Feng truly have a cure? If not, and Zhao Kang was angered, they might never get the money back.
“There’s a way, of course, but you must repay the loan first. Transfer the money to the bank account, and I guarantee your problem will be solved,” Lin Feng replied casually, wary of Zhao Kang going back on his word.
“Well…” Zhao Kang hesitated, clearly uneasy.
Lin Feng smiled calmly. “If you don’t trust me, Director Zhao, then I’ll take my leave.”
“Wait!”
Seeing Lin Feng about to leave, Zhao Kang slapped the table and decided, “No problem. I’ll transfer the money right now.”
He immediately summoned his finance department and instructed them to repay the entire debt to Su’s Bank, doubled.
Then he turned to Lin Feng, “Now will you treat me?”
“Of course. In fact, your problem lies with that bracelet; it’s made of black sandalwood, which accumulates a great deal of yin energy.”
“Simply remove the bracelet and your symptoms will vanish,” Lin Feng said flatly.
“That simple?” Zhao Kang was astounded.
Even Xue Siyu was momentarily stunned.
Lin Feng answered with full confidence, “Yes, just that simple.”
“You’re playing me for a fool!” Zhao Kang wasn’t stupid—if it were that easy, why would he need Lin Feng?
He immediately called for the security guards, who surrounded Lin Feng menacingly. “Hand over the money you just swallowed, or I’ll have your life.”
“Director Zhao, there’s no need for anger. I’m telling you the truth. If you don’t believe me, just take off the bracelet and see whether there’s a black dragon moving along your wrist.”
“That black dragon is the source of the evil energy. Once you remove the bracelet, the nightmares will stop. However, your weakened body will need a specific medicinal pill to recover—one that only I can obtain for you.”
Lin Feng explained further. Zhao Kang, incredulous, took off the bracelet, and indeed saw a vague black dragon pattern on his wrist that couldn’t be wiped away.
His face went pale with fright, eyes wide as he asked, “Is everything you said true?”
“Believe me or not, but if you want to live, you’d better trust me,” Lin Feng said calmly.
“Heh, young man, just teasing you earlier—don’t take it to heart. Everyone, stand down,” Zhao Kang immediately changed his attitude, ordering the guards away, then bent down to serve Lin Feng tea and even began massaging his shoulders with a smile. “Brother, where can I get this medicine? How soon can you provide it?”
“Anytime. I just need to call a friend, and he’ll send the medicine over,” Lin Feng replied.
“Excellent, I want it now!” Zhao Kang said eagerly.
Lin Feng called Zhou Liran on the spot, explained the situation, and Zhou agreed to send someone with the medicine immediately.
But just as Zhao Kang was about to take the pill, Lin Feng added, “Director Zhao, are you just going to take the medicine like that?”
“What do you mean?”
“This pill is valuable—it’s not something a mere doubled payment can buy,” Lin Feng said bluntly.
“I see…” Zhao Kang caught on, promptly ordered his finance staff to bring a bank card, and handed it to Lin Feng. “Brother, there’s ten million in here. Please accept it as a token of my sincerity.”
“Also, if you ever need anything in the future, just ask. As long as it’s within my power, I’ll do it without hesitation.”
“Good,” Lin Feng replied with satisfaction, then left with Xue Siyu.
As soon as they stepped out of the building materials company, Xue Siyu’s gaze toward Lin Feng had completely transformed.
