Chapter 122: You Have No Chance Anymore
She stared at the river in disbelief, shaking her head as she said, "Impossible. I have seen Lin Feng's capabilities; he would never sink with the car. The person inside cannot be him."
"Sister Hui, when the vehicle submerged, the doors were locked, and it was traveling at high speed. Even if Mr. Lin possesses extraordinary abilities, I fear he had no way to escape," her subordinate reported.
"Enough!"
Fang Huihui snapped at her subordinate, stating bluntly, "The car and the person have not been recovered yet, so spare me the pessimistic talk. Focus all your energy on the salvage operation."
"Whether the person inside is dead or alive, you must find him for me."
"Understood, Sister Hui."
The subordinate acknowledged the order and immediately went to assist.
There were many people involved in the salvage, including divers searching underwater. It did not take long for them to locate the vehicle, and the information was relayed to the surface immediately.
When Fang Huihui received the news, her expression was one of intense agitation. If the car was found, the person had to be inside.
She immediately ordered the divers to check the interior. To her dismay, after the officers searched the entire vehicle, inside and out, as well as the surrounding area, they found no trace of Lin Feng.
"What? No one in the car? What about the surrounding area? Did he sink to the bottom, or did he manage to escape?" Hearing this, Fang Huihui was shocked and hurriedly asked for clarification.
"It is unclear at the moment. I will continue the underwater search and report back to you as soon as I have news."
The subordinate cut the connection and resumed searching for any signs of Lin Feng.
Fang Huihui felt a surge of anxiety, silently praying that Lin Feng was unharmed. Though she still held some doubts about his true identity, she trusted him more than she suspected him. If he were a villain, he could never have helped the authorities capture those poison-casters last night. Perhaps this accident was an act of retaliation.
Time ticked by, and despite a thorough search of the riverbed, nothing was found. By the time the team called off the operation, they had recovered nothing but the taxi. Based on their past experience, they concluded that Lin Feng had likely perished; after so much time, he would have surfaced by now if he were still alive.
As Fang Huihui got back into her car, her face was filled with sorrow. She simply could not believe that Lin Feng had drowned just like that.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the river.
The driver who had steered the car into the river was now driving leisurely back to his boss. With headphones on and music playing, he was in high spirits. Killing Lin Feng had been a double-bonus job: one part was the high bounty from the Volcano Nation, and the other was from the employer behind his boss.
His boss had promised him thirty million for this hit, a reward he would collect as soon as he returned with proof of success. He was already imagining the mountain of cash he would soon possess.
*Whoosh!*
Suddenly, he caught sight of a figure darting past his car, and he shuddered in terror. He slammed on the brakes, pulling over to the side. Rubbing his eyes, he looked outside in disbelief, but there was no one there.
*Did I imagine it?* he wondered. He dismissed the thought; it was broad daylight, and he was certain something had flashed past. Why had it vanished?
Driven by curiosity, he stepped out of the car to look around. Little did he know, the moment his feet touched the ground, that same figure had already silently appeared behind him.
He scanned the surroundings, and only when he noticed a shadow on the ground did he spin around. Upon seeing who stood before him, he shrieked in terror and collapsed onto the ground.
It was none other than Lin Feng.
"Lin Feng? You... didn't you sink with the car? How are you still alive?" The driver turned deathly pale, cold sweat pouring down his face as he stammered.
"Do you really think you can kill me?" Lin Feng walked toward him, his eyes radiating a frigid light. "You had better tell me the truth. Who is the boss you mentioned on the phone?"
"And why did he want to kill me? Was it just for the bounty?"
"B-brother, please spare me! I didn't mean to hurt you! Every debt has a debtor—if you want revenge, go find Old Madam Su. She is the real mastermind!" The driver was so terrified he was on the verge of wetting himself. Though he was a poison-caster, this was his first time seeing a "ghost" in broad daylight. He had been absolutely certain he had drowned the man.
Hearing this, Lin Feng became suspicious. Was this Old Madam Su somehow connected to the poison-casters?
Frowning, he asked, "Who did you say? Did Old Madam Su send you to deal with me?"
"She didn't send me directly; she sent my boss. My boss is her older brother and the leader of the Five Poisons. It was only after our boss received her call that he decided to move against you," the man replied.
"I see. Does your attempt on my life have anything to do with the bounty? Were the poison-casters captured last night also part of the Five Poisons?" Lin Feng pressed.
"Yes, that's right. We are all part of the Five Poisons. We specialize in using toxins. We recently stumbled upon a bounty notice that had your name on it."
"Hmph, you’re honest enough. Too bad that since you intended to kill me, I cannot let you walk away."
Lin Feng let out a cold snort, a glint of lethal intent flashing in his eyes. Before the driver could even plead for mercy, Lin Feng’s hand descended upon his head, and with a sharp *crack*, he snapped his neck.
Lin Feng then strode away. Even after he left, the murderous aura in his eyes remained. He thought to himself that it was indeed Old Madam Su—that old hag truly refused to repent. Even now, bankrupt and desperate, she was still fighting a losing battle!
*Fine,* he thought. *If that’s how you want to play it, I will make sure you lose everything.*
He got back into his car and headed toward Su氏 Bank to find Su Qingxue. He was in no rush to deal with Old Madam Su; if he exposed her now and she died too easily, it would be letting her off too lightly. Compared to a swift death, torment was a far greater punishment.
When he arrived at the bank, a long queue of customers was waiting to purchase financial products, all hoping to get their hands on the Rejuvenation Elixir. The drug had been hyped up online to an absurd degree; everyone in the city wanted a bottle.
Seeing this, Lin Feng was satisfied. It seemed the bank was about to make a fortune. Before long, Su氏 Bank would rival the City Bank of Jiangcheng and become a premier financial institution.
"Qingxue, I beg you to forgive me. I truly know I was wrong. I was deceived by that scoundrel last time. I never intended to hurt you. Please, give me another chance."
As soon as Lin Feng walked upstairs and approached Su Qingxue’s office, he heard a familiar woman’s voice from within. It was none other than Lin Yao.
