She searched the entire restaurant, but there was no sign of Lin Feng.

She got into her car and called him, but no one answered. It was as if Lin Feng had suddenly vanished into thin air.

"Lin Feng, where did you go? Come back, please. I know I was wrong. I will never doubt you again."

Su Qingxue threw her phone aside, buried her face in her hands on the steering wheel, and sobbed uncontrollably. She felt as though her world had collapsed.

Meanwhile, Lin Feng was walking alone toward his former residence. His expression was blank, but his heart was filled with a deep sense of loss. He had thought Su Qingxue was the person he trusted most, yet he never imagined that in her eyes, he possessed not even a shred of credibility. Perhaps leaving was the best choice after all.

"Hey, get out of the way! Are you blind?" Just then, Lin Feng heard a familiar shout from behind.

He turned around to see a black sedan speeding toward him and quickly jumped aside. Once he had cleared the road, he realized the driver was Fang Huihui!

Fang Huihui slammed on the brakes at that very moment. She rolled down the window and stared at Lin Feng in disbelief, thinking she was seeing things. "Is it really you? Lin Feng, you’re not dead?"

She had gone out so late specifically to look for him. She had received a report that someone had spotted Lin Feng at a music restaurant, confirming he was alive. At first, she had been skeptical, but after seeing the photo her subordinate sent, she knew it was him and had come to verify it herself. She never expected to run into him on the way.

"Officer Fang? Why are you here?" Lin Feng’s expression turned puzzled the moment he saw her.

She opened the passenger door, beckoned him inside, and then recounted what had happened that day. After listening, Lin Feng found it somewhat ironic.

"So you were looking for me," he said coldly. "I did nearly drown in the river today, but if I had just died like that, wouldn't it have made things too easy for those who wanted me gone?"

"Do you know who they were?" Fang Huihui asked seriously.

"A practitioner of gu poison, in league with those from last night. Their goal was my life," Lin Feng stated bluntly.

"And where is he now?" she asked.

"Dead. I killed him with my own hands," Lin Feng replied coldly.

Fang Huihui let out a sigh of relief. After a few seconds of silence, she asked, "By the way, why were you walking on the road alone? You looked so distracted earlier—did something happen? Could it be that you and Su Qingxue had a fight?"

According to her information, Lin Feng had been dining with Su Qingxue, so it stood to reason he should have been with her.

Lin Feng remained expressionless, feeling a pang of disappointment. "That’s none of your business. Since you were looking for me anyway, why don't you just drive me home?"

"What? You want me to drive you?" Fang Huihui was surprised. She was about to retort, but seeing his pitiful demeanor, she softened. "Fine. I can't sleep anyway, so consider it me keeping you company."

With that, she drove him away. Along the way, she shared a lot about herself. It turned out that beneath her cold exterior as an officer, she carried her own burdens. Her dream wasn't to be an officer, but a painter. She had loved art since she was a child, but to her father, that was a waste of time. Ever since middle school, she hadn't had the chance to draw; she was forced to read detective novels because her father wanted her to be a good officer. Eventually, she followed his wishes, and her dream of painting was buried deep in her heart.

"I never would have guessed you had such a passion. Thanks for sharing this with me tonight. I'm home," Lin Feng said as he looked at the scenery outside and prepared to get out of the car.

She smiled slightly. "Don't mention it. I only shared it because I don't think you're a bad person. Besides, I can see what's on your mind. You don't have to be so sad; women aren't always what you think. Perhaps the one you argued with values you the most—maybe she’s crying alone right now, needing a man to comfort her."

Fang Huihui waved goodbye, rolled up the window, and drove off.

Back home, Lin Feng replayed her words in his mind. He checked his phone and was stunned to find dozens of missed calls, all from Su Qingxue. Could Fang Huihui have been right?

After a moment of hesitation, he decided to call her back, but the line was powered off.

She must have run out of battery. Lin Feng didn't think much of it at first; he showered, dried his hair, and checked his phone again. Still no missed calls, so he tried calling her one more time, assuming she was home and had charged it. But it was still off.

Lying in bed, he tossed and turned, unable to sleep. He couldn't help but worry about her. She was kind-hearted and had never known the bitterness of heartbreak—what if she did something rash because of what happened tonight?

Knock, knock, knock!

Suddenly, a knock sounded at the door. Lin Feng snapped to attention and went to answer it. To his surprise, Fang Huihui was standing there—she had come back!

Lin Feng was only wearing boxers, and seeing her staring, he felt awkward. He quickly tried to distract her. "Why are you back?"

"Get in the car, quick! Something happened with Su Qingxue."

Fang Huihui didn't have time to explain. She grabbed him, dragged him out, and sped toward the Tian Shang Ren Jian bar in Jiangcheng.

"What’s going on? What happened to Qingxue?" Lin Feng asked, confused.

"My colleague just called. There’s a disturbance at the bar. A wealthy second-generation heir from the provincial capital was harassing a woman, and she ended up smashing a beer bottle over his head."

"What does that have to do with Qingxue?" Lin Feng asked, bewildered.

"The woman is Su Qingxue," Fang Huihui replied bluntly.

Lin Feng was stunned. The girl had grown some backbone—she actually learned to smash a bottle over someone's head?

"Good for her. It's a good thing she can protect herself," he said dismissively.

"Do you even know who she hit? It was the eldest son of the Yan family, one of the four great families in the provincial capital. He’s in Jiangcheng for business, and even the City Commissioner has to show him respect. Su Qingxue has gotten herself into serious trouble."
