Chapter Eighty-Two: Father...
When Yu Shifei finally woke, Yu Chenling flashed to her side in a blur. The senior disciple who had just been cursing him was shocked, thinking the old man meant to harm his mentor. But the moment Yu Shifei opened her eyes, the first thing she said was, "Dad? Why are you here?"
"Dad? Why are you here?"
Those words seemed to echo in his ears with a strange, overwhelming force. The old man he had just shouted at was actually the mentor's father! Which meant he was the famously elusive dean of Sky Sun Academy!
His face went pale in an instant. Damn it, what had he just done? He had actually called the dean an old geezer!
Since Yu Chenling rarely appeared at Sky Sun Academy in his capacity as dean, few people recognized him. This senior disciple had failed to recognize him just now; otherwise, even given a thousand times more courage, he would never have dared call the dean an old man!
Yet Yu Chenling did not seem the least bit offended. Instead, he looked at Yu Shifei with delight and said, "My daughter, your cultivation?"
"Mm! I'm already at the late Foundation Establishment stage. In a few years, I should be able to break through to the Core Opening stage and form a golden core!" Having made a breakthrough, Yu Shifei, the person concerned, was naturally thrilled.
Holy crap, Core Opening stage!
Including Chen Bo, everyone stared in wide-eyed disbelief. Yu Shifei was certainly not yet twenty-five this year, which meant she might even have a chance to reach the Core Opening stage before she turned thirty! Such monstrous talent would be top-tier even across the entire Savage Wilderness Continent.
This only made Chen Bo even more envious. He was nearly sixteen now and still only at the mid-Flesh Tempering stage. If he wanted to reach the Core Opening stage, who knew how many years that would take? It looked like he would have to work hard at cultivating the Nine Suns Scripture from now on.
If one were to name the ten things Chen Bo hated most in this life, cultivation would absolutely rank in the top three. There was no other reason for it: it was simply too grueling, even harsher than his outdoor livestreaming. After living so long in the big city, Chen Bo would need some time before he could truly adapt to cultivation.
After the father and daughter spoke for a while, Yu Shifei suddenly turned to Chen Bo and said, "This time I owe you a favor. But I saved you before, so let’s call it even. Also, you wrecked my weapon-refining room, so I’ll take this spear as your compensation."
A spear? Only then did Chen Bo notice that the spear he had forged had undergone a complete transformation.
That once plain and crude spear now carried an awe-inspiring aura of killing intent, and its grade had somehow soared several levels. It had directly become a spirit artifact!
And this was forged by a total amateur like him? For some reason, Chen Bo felt a stab of pain in his heart.
There was no other reason for it: the weapon he had worked so hard to forge had ended up cheaply benefiting someone else. Was there any justice in this world? Was Yu Shifei the protagonist, or was he, Chen Bo, the protagonist?
"I don't know why, but whenever I see the streamer wearing that stunned, jaw-dropped expression, my bad mood just vanishes."
"What do you call that again? There’s a phrase about working hard for ages only to end up making wedding clothes for someone else. I forgot the words at the critical moment!"
"Confirmed: the comment above is an illiterate humanities major! The sentence should go like this: after struggling and grinding for so long, in the end it all became someone else’s bridal finery. Don’t ask me whether I made that up myself, because I will absolutely not tell you."
"We common folk are truly happy today, the sun shines bright above, the flowers smile at me, and the birds say I have a little donkey that I never ride."
"The poor fellow above is already beyond saving. Can someone drag him back? Better yet, drag him straight to Greenhill Psychiatric Hospital."
"Right now I only want to know whether Lady Fei's strike just now was more powerful than a guided bomb."
"I think Lady Fei wins. That hit was practically earthshaking! It nearly scared me half to death. If that blow had landed on a tank, it would have left a hole big enough to pass through."
"No, no, brother above, your horizons are too narrow. Some aerial bombs are incredibly powerful; some can even wipe out an entire small village!"
"Wipe out a whole small village? Brother above, are you sure you aren't talking about a nuclear bomb or something? Only a weapon of mass destruction like that could have such power. And some high-yield nuclear bombs can even destroy a city!"
"I think all of you need to brush up on your knowledge. Back in World War II, before the atomic bomb appeared, there was already a bomb so powerful it could easily destroy a small village and affect everything for miles around to varying degrees."
"So powerful? Are you kidding me? If something that fierce existed in World War II, then why did Japan hold out until the atomic bomb was made before surrendering?"
"Ha! If you don't believe me, look it up online. Spouting nonsense here when you don't know much. I think that bomb was called Tallboy, or something like that, though back then it had a collective name: earthquake bomb!"
"We're talking about aerial bombs here. Why are you dragging bombs into it?"
"If you strap a bomb to a plane, doesn't it become an aerial bomb? And if I remember right, that's probably exactly what it was. If not an aerial bomb, then it was a depth charge. After all, that kind of bomb is huge, and there isn't really anything that can launch it."
"Damn, that works too? I have no words."
Hearing Yu Shifei so brazenly claim the spear he had forged for herself, Chen Bo felt icy cold all over.
He had not even been at Sky Sun Academy for half a month yet, but he already knew this father-daughter pair very well. Once something good fell into their hands, forget about getting it back! Classic robber mentality! Pure capitalist plunder!
As a glorious Party member, as an honorary general of the republic, as a successor of our great Party, how could he possibly yield to such a corrupting and misguided doctrine?!
Seeing that Chen Bo did not answer, Yu Shifei frowned. "What? You don't want to? I still haven't settled accounts with you for what you did last month. Are you sure you don't want to?"
"Last month? Last month, ah! That was the time I was in the woods—"
Before Chen Bo could finish, Yu Shifei had already turned bright red. She gripped the spear in both hands, pointed the tip at his throat, and said through clenched teeth, "Little thief, if you dare tell anyone about this, no matter where you run, to the ends of the earth, I will personally take your head!"
Those words were dripping with murderous intent, yet for some reason Chen Bo could not help feeling that they sounded more like a girl filled with resentment toward a boy. Damn it, that had to be an illusion!
"Well... actually, I think this spear suits you perfectly, Mentor. If it stayed in my hands, that would be a real waste of such a fine thing."
Chen Bo laughed it off as though he had said nothing at all.
