Chapter Eighty-Five: The Imperial Edict
What else could it possibly say? Imagine, mistaking Lord Fire for a mere parrot! One of those silly birds with big beaks and clumsy feet! And even more outrageous, saying its master isn’t a decent bird! For heaven’s sake, the audacity of this boy—does he even realize who its master is? The current Emperor, no less! To openly insult the Emperor and call him a bad bird—how many executions would that warrant?
Yet, for reasons unknown, upon seeing this boy, it couldn’t muster the slightest urge to kill. Strange, almost as if it had been bewitched today. Well, it decided not to bother with him for now; pigeons are magnanimous creatures, after all. Lord Fire declared, “Boy, come here! I’ve got something good for you!”
“Whoa! You can actually say other things!” Chen Bo exclaimed, as if he’d discovered a new continent, his childlike curiosity flaring.
“Damn it! I am not a parrot! I am a purebred pigeon! A pigeon! Did you hear me?!” Lord Fire felt that if it stayed any longer with this human, it’d surely be driven mad.
“You can't really be a pigeon, can you? How could a pigeon talk? That's not funny at all! Come here, little parrot, I’ve got some peanuts for you, want some?” Chen Bo still refused to believe it—how could a pigeon possibly speak? Even animals were playing tricks these days.
“Screw it, I’m not putting up with this anymore!” Lord Fire spat, pulled a large chest and a roll of imperial edict from its storage space, and flew off.
It swore never to see this human again for the rest of its life. Dammit, its dignity as a pigeon had been seriously wounded.
“Whoa, the parrot can even throw hidden weapons!” Chen Bo saw a big black shadow falling from the sky and hurried to dodge. Parrots these days had become monsters, capable of hurling secret weapons! Would they soon be wielding swords?
“Boom!”
“Bang!”
A deafening crash and a lighter sound. Chen Bo found a pitch-black chest before him, with a roll of golden cloth draped on top, embroidered with a dragon, and faintly showing the character for “edict.”
What the heck was this? Some kind of magical curse? Just kidding, this was an Eastern world—there was no such thing as magic curses!
Full of curiosity, Chen Bo reached for the imperial edict. It suddenly flashed with dazzling golden light, making him squeeze his eyes shut in fright.
When he opened them again, the edict was floating in front of him, its bold black characters clearly visible.
Suddenly, Chen Bo felt he had offended an exceptionally formidable super boss. He wanted to cry; that bird really was a pigeon—and not just any pigeon, but the Emperor's envoy and pet!
He’d even insulted the pigeon’s master, calling him a bad bird...
“Streamer, you’re doomed! You’ve offended the Emperor! And you even slaughtered the Emperor’s bird!”
“Slaughtered the Emperor’s bird! Slaughtered the Emperor’s bird! Slaughtered the Emperor’s bird! This phrase is so catchy, it needs to be said three times! Upstairs, get in formation! Make sure your posture is fabulous!”
“Slaughtered the Emperor’s bird! Slaughtered the Emperor’s bird! Slaughtered the Emperor’s bird! This phrase is so catchy, it needs to be said three times! Upstairs, get in formation! Make sure your posture is fabulous!”

“Are you just planning to spam the chat? Be careful or the mods will lock you up in the dark room.”
“Fine, I’ll reward the streamer with 666 coins. Sorry, I’m a dog, I’m wagging at you all—so what are you then? Less than a dog?”
“Bookworm rewards 666 coins, ahem, I’m also a mod dog. If you don’t like it, come and hurt each other!”
“Hahaha, that’s what happens when you offend the mods! 666666666!”
Chen Bo ignored the chaos in the live stream. These days he barely managed it himself; with a dozen moderators keeping watch, it was enough.
What? You say mods can’t be online every day? Not twenty-four-seven? Oh, youth, you’re too naive. Chen Bo’s stream had twelve moderators, nine of whom were state employees. Those officials worked shifts, so being online around the clock was no problem!
Chen Bo examined the imperial edict. Its contents were straightforward—the Emperor clearly wasn’t a scholar. The edict was written in plain language, easy to understand.
It basically said that Chen Bo had contributed something regarding long-handled weapons and was rewarded with a pile of gifts. But there was a warning: long-handled weapons were now a state secret, and leaking them would mean certain death.
A carrot and a stick—imperial tactics never ceased.
Chen Bo ignored the later warnings. Could paper really cover fire? He refused to believe there weren’t enemy spies within Tianyang Academy; perhaps some of those senior brothers were agents from rival nations.
Damn, so he’d been swept into the murky struggle between nations just like that? This wasn’t fair! A few rewards and they thought that was enough? At the very least, he deserved some bodyguards!
Still, a chest of rewards was better than nothing. Chen Bo tucked the edict into his undershirt as a protective talisman. Judging by its quality, it was surely resistant to blades, bullets, fire, and water. If others knew he used the imperial edict like this, they’d certainly give him a thumbs up, then report him to the court.
Looking around to make sure no one was watching, Chen Bo quickly pushed the heavy chest into his dorm. It took all his strength to move it; it was definitely loaded with treasures.
After a great deal of effort, he finally dragged the chest inside. It was so heavy, there must be plenty of good stuff inside.
Chen Bo closed the door and impatiently opened the chest. The dazzling white spirit stones nearly blinded his gold-obsessed eyes!
“Whoa, whoa, whoa—there must be five or six hundred spirit stones here! And they’re all top-grade!” Chen Bo swallowed hard. Was he about to strike it rich?
These hundreds of top-grade spirit stones would last him a lifetime! Damn, the Emperor was really wealthy—such generous rewards at the drop of a hat.
He needed to hide them quickly! If Old Man Yu Chenling saw them, he’d guarantee not a single stone would remain by the next day.
Guard against fire, thieves, Old Wang, Old Song—and add the Dean to that list!
Seeing several big shots tipping him lately, he’d compile a list at month’s end and post it in the chapters as thanks.
Tomorrow at noon, there’d be a trial push—anyone who hasn’t yet bookmarked, please move your finger and click “add to bookshelf.”
And to all those brothers reading pirated copies, the book is still free now—come support the official version! I don’t ask much, a few clicks would do!
Recently, I downloaded “Book Chasing Artifact,” a pirated app, and found that Little Bei’s Otherworldly Stream had thirty-something followers! And that’s just a single piracy channel.
My heart aches.
