Chapter 125: The Youth
Fireball Talisman? Healing Talisman? Wood-Man Talisman? Diamond Talisman? Earth-Spike Talisman? Good grief, have all five elements—metal, wood, water, fire, and earth—been bundled together here?
However, Chen Bo recalled that talismans were something of a specialty back on Earth. Of course, they might also exist in worlds filled with ghosts or those revolving around cultivation. The problem, however, was that the Savage Continent was a world of martial arts, where one practiced the path of the warrior; talismans were nowhere to be found.
Therefore, if he were to use these talismans secretly and at the right moment, couldn't he even catch an Innate-realm expert off guard? Thinking of this, Chen Bo immediately felt these talismans become high-end and formidable.
The Fireball Talisman was clearly for long-range attacks. He just wondered how big the fireball would actually be. If it were the size of a house, good heavens, that would be practically a missile! Chen Bo imagined a fireball several meters, perhaps even ten meters in diameter, suddenly crashing into an enemy; the sheer momentum alone would surely terrify countless people into collapse. Such an inconceivable long-range attack method could seemingly only be performed by Innate-realm experts, and even then, only those with considerable strength. The only concern was whether the power of the fireball would be up to the mark.
The Healing Talisman was wonderful! No matter how severe the injury, one could be cured with a single use. However, he wondered if this thing would have any effect on severed limbs. For some reason, a strange thought suddenly crossed Chen Bo’s mind: he felt an urge to cut off his "third leg" just to test the efficacy of the Healing Talisman.
Damn it, such a dangerous thought was absolutely unacceptable! Chen Bo’s face was filled with horror. How could he have such a thought? It must have been the extreme mental strain from the previous battle leading to some temporary delirium. Yes, that must be it!
The Wood-Man Talisman—this was great! Having five Wood-Man Talismans was essentially having five extra lives. This was definitely a tool for escape; whenever he encountered an unbeatable opponent, he could simply toss out a Wood-Man Talisman. It would transform into a substitute puppet, and then—wah-ha-ha-ha! Why did he feel his laughter was so evil? It gave off a real "villain" vibe, didn't it?
However, the Wood-Man Talisman was not without its limitations. Once an enemy reached the Innate realm, the talisman would become useless. Against an Innate expert, it would be nothing more than scrap paper—the kind so rough you wouldn't even want to use it as toilet paper.
The Diamond Talisman—this was good! Invulnerability to blades and arrows—this ability was quite impressive. Did this mean he could stand still amidst an enemy’s siege, letting them hack and slash at him without sustaining any injuries? Sometimes, having absolute defense was quite nice. At the very least, he could witness the look of astonishment on the enemies' faces when they realized they couldn't cut him down. Just thinking about it was exciting! He only wondered if this Diamond Talisman could make a certain "area" even harder. Although his own parts were already quite decent, who would ever complain about their "little brother" being even stronger? Chen Bo certainly wouldn't.
As for the final Earth-Spike Talisman, it was definitely a tool for backstabbing! It could absolutely be used as a trump card. When an enemy appeared, he could trigger the talisman, causing a sharp earthen spike to erupt from the ground. If they were unlucky, it might pierce a certain sensitive area, at which point a background song might play: "Chrysanthemum shriveled, buttocks bruised, your smile has faded to yellow." No wonder they said this type of talisman was lewd; the rumors were true.
With a thought, Chen Bo sorted the stack of talismans and placed them in the most prominent spot within his system space, so that he could retrieve them immediately if he encountered danger.
Just as Chen Bo was immersed in the joy of obtaining so many treasures, a soft sound of footsteps came from not far away. Chen Bo looked toward the door and saw the wooden door slowly open. A burly youth with an ordinary appearance entered carrying a bowl of porridge. The youth’s face was very youthful, appearing to be about the same age as Chen Bo, likely around sixteen. He had a very plain look, the kind of person who would be lost in a crowd without anyone giving him a second glance. However, he was very tall, only a few centimeters shorter than Guo Zi'ang, and his muscles were even more exaggerated. He was practically a simplified version of the Hulk; the muscles on one of his arms were as thick as Chen Bo’s thighs, perhaps even thicker.
The muscular youth looked at Chen Bo with bright, piercing eyes. Seeing that Chen Bo had woken up, he quickly set the porridge down on a small table nearby and shouted toward the doorway, "Dad! He’s awake!"
Then, he turned to Chen Bo, grinned, and said, "I know you have a lot of questions to ask me, but you’re severely injured. You’ve been unconscious for nearly a day and a night, and haven't eaten a grain of rice; your body is very weak. It’s best you don't speak for now. Drink some porridge to fill your stomach; you’ll feel much better."
Hearing this, Chen Bo nodded slightly. He knew this youth must be the one who saved him—a life-saving grace. If not for him, who knew if he would be alive or dead? But he had been unconscious for a day and a night? And he hadn't eaten anything! No wonder he felt so hungry upon waking. Chen Bo didn't know how he had managed to survive a whole day without food or water, especially since martial artists in the Postnatal realm usually had huge appetites.
The muscular youth brought the large bowl of porridge to Chen Bo’s lips. Chen Bo didn't stand on ceremony; not fearing the heat, he downed the entire bowl in one go. Although the porridge was mostly water with only a tiny bit of rice, Chen Bo finally felt that his stomach wasn't empty anymore.
Seeing Chen Bo’s appetite, the muscular youth opened his mouth wide, eyes bulging, and stammered, "You drank that so fast—you're even more impressive than me. Also, aren't you afraid of the heat? This porridge was just ladled out of the pot; it could boil an egg. Can your stomach handle that?"
After finishing the porridge, Chen Bo’s throat felt less parched. He cleared his throat and said weakly, "It’s fine, it’s fine. My stomach is notoriously strong. Also, thank you for saving me. If not for you, I would have been left to rot in the wilderness. By the way, my name is Chen Bo—'Chen' for 'old stories,' and 'Bo' for 'chess game.'"
"Oh! My name is Zhang Daniu! I’m from Zhang Family Village. Yesterday, when I saw you lying on the ground covered in blood, I thought you were dead. But I went over to check and found you were still breathing, so I carried you back."
