Chapter Seventy-Four: The Expanding Furnace
Thus, far away on the Wild Continent, Yu Shifei was completely unaware that she had suddenly acquired a new nickname. Moreover, it was a nickname bestowed upon her by aliens, and most importantly, it sounded much better than being called a witch. “Boss Fei, Boss Fei”—just saying it out loud felt so cool!
After teaching a lesson to Chen Bo’s senior brothers, Yu Shifei suddenly turned to him and said, “Little thief, don’t you dare blow this place up again. If you so much as damage a single refining chamber, I’ll make you pay out of your own pocket to rebuild ten of them!”
“If you refuse to rebuild them, that’s fine too. I have plenty of ways to make you beg to do it yourself. Do you understand?” Truly domineering—Chen Bo nodded so vigorously his head resembled a pecking chick, all sincerity on his face. What he was thinking inside, though, was anybody’s guess.
Yu Shifei led him to a rather large refining chamber. The place was incredibly spacious—at a glance, it was at least the size of a luxury villa. Chen Bo was left gaping in astonishment; to turn such a giant house into a refining chamber was extravagance beyond belief.
At the same time, he realized that land on the Wild Continent must be dirt cheap, and the cost of construction probably wasn’t high either. Otherwise, knowing the temperament of the Academy’s headmaster, how could he possibly bear to make a place this big?
This refining chamber was clearly no ordinary place. Strange symbols were drawn on the floor with some unknown material, and blocks of elemental stones—every one of them top grade—were arranged in all directions.
“This must be some kind of formation!” Chen Bo muttered, stomping his foot a few times experimentally. The floor was unusually hard—likely the formation’s doing. He wondered what kind of formation it was; its defensive power seemed off the charts.
Sensing his confusion, Yu Shifei glanced at the formation and explained, “I set up this formation myself. It’s called Fortification. The name may sound old-fashioned, but its defense is formidable—even a Sea-Splitting master at full strength would have trouble breaking through.”
“Though the formation is set on the floor, it protects the entire refining chamber. There’s nothing else like it in the entire Refining Department.”
As she spoke, Yu Shifei’s face shone with pride. Clearly, she was quite satisfied with her genius in fusing the arts of refining, formations, and cultivation into one.
It seemed this refining chamber was truly impressive. Chen Bo looked around with shining eyes and asked, “Boss Fei—uh, I mean, Instructor Yu, will this be my personal refining chamber from now on?”
In his excitement, he blurted out the nickname, but fortunately caught himself in time.
“Your personal refining chamber? Dream on!” Yu Shifei shot down his hopes without hesitation, adding, “This is just a place for you to test your refining skills temporarily. This happens to be my personal refining chamber!”
“And just now, what did you call me—Boss? It sounds pretty good, but don’t try to flatter me, little thief. I’ve never fallen for that since I was a child!”
Chen Bo was instantly defeated. This woman wasn’t just proud; she was downright narcissistic! If she hadn’t saved his life earlier, he would have rolled his eyes at her on the spot.
After all that, it turned out he was only allowed to use the place for today’s refining. So what? It’s just a refining chamber! What’s so special about it? Chen Bo felt no envy at all—really! He absolutely didn’t even know how to type the word “lie” on his keyboard.
Unwilling to say more, Chen Bo was suddenly drawn to the refining furnace inside. Suspended in midair at the very center of the room, the furnace radiated an endless surge of fiery elemental power.
Even from dozens of meters away, Chen Bo felt a wave of heat washing over him—this thing was definitely a treasure! At least of the Elemental Artifact level!
Elemental Artifacts was the collective term for items forged by refiners on the continent, and it was also a grade. There were three major tiers: from lowest to highest—Treasure Artifacts, Elemental Artifacts, and Dao Artifacts. Who knew which idiot came up with these names—it must have been someone who’d run out of imagination.
Drawing closer, he found that this magnificent furnace was only about the size of a rice cooker. Was this really a refining furnace and not a pill cauldron? The little yin-yang fish symbol on top made it look more like a pill cauldron than anything else.
“Instructor Yu, are you sure this thing is for refining tools? Isn’t it a pill cauldron?” Chen Bo’s expression was odd, his question uncertain.
“Idiot! And you call yourself a refiner? Can’t even tell a pill cauldron from a refining furnace!” Yu Shifei looked utterly defeated. How could she have known that the refining manual Chen Bo had received only covered the origins of the art and some basic techniques?
Though the manual mentioned pill cauldrons, it didn’t go into much detail, so Chen Bo only had a hazy understanding.
Yu Shifei walked over, muttering some incantation under her breath and forming a hand seal. A red beam shot into the yin-yang fish symbol atop the furnace, which instantly began to glow with a brilliant red light.
To Chen Bo’s astonishment, the furnace gradually expanded, finally becoming as large as a reservoir—at least four meters high and over three meters long. With only a trace of elemental energy injected, a blazing crimson flame instantly enveloped the furnace.
This miraculous sight left not only Chen Bo stunned, but the entire livestream audience as well.
Because the barrage of comments in the livestream was semi-transparent, even when the screen was filled with remarks, everyone could clearly see Yu Shifei’s every move.
“Oh my God! Oh my gosh! My Lord! Could this lady be the child of the Fire God?”
“So much for foreigners being well-educated! Judging by the comment above, this foreign brother doesn’t seem to know the difference between son and daughter.”
“Boss Fei is amazing! Damn, just a touch and such a huge elemental fire bursts out!”
“I used to think those streamers who forged tools with giant hammers were rough. Now I finally understand—this is what real refining looks like! Damn, this is just too cool!”
“This scene leaves Hollywood blockbusters in the dust—I’ve never realized American special effects are just so-so. Boss Fei is really bringing honor to our nation. Thumbs up.”
“Use your head, people. The streamer isn’t filming a movie—this is all real. No special effects could create this. Even if special effects could, they’d lack the spirit, the natural perfection. That’s where technology falls short.”
“I don’t totally understand what the person above said, but it sounds so convincing.”
“I really want that refining furnace—Streamer, could you send me one? I’m not greedy, just this one is enough.”
Barring any surprises, there should be another update tonight, maybe even two.
