Chapter 112: Divine Doctor, Please Accept Me as Your Disciple
“Hmm… I can do this,” Gu Yun said after a brief pause, her gaze toward Zhang Xiaofan growing noticeably intense.
“Hey, don’t look at me like that, or I’ll start thinking you’ve taken a fancy to me,” Zhang Xiaofan joked with a smile.
The nurses nearby couldn’t help but chuckle at his words.
At that moment, Gu Yun’s previous coldness during the stitching had completely vanished, replaced by a faint blush on her face.
Softly, she asked, “Sir, which school did you graduate from? You must have had a remarkable mentor.”
Zhang Xiaofan smiled faintly. “No school. Just a grassroots doctor.”
“If you don’t want to say, that’s fine. But could you tell me your name?” Gu Yun asked eagerly. “I want you to be my teacher.”
“Me? You can call me Fan Ge—Brother Fan. As for being your teacher, I have to be frank: your mental resilience isn’t quite ready for leading internal surgeries. You’ll need to be careful in the future; not every time will there be someone like me to help,” Zhang Xiaofan advised.
Gu Yun nodded in agreement, fully aware of this herself. No matter how well she studied at school, her composure in actual practice was still lacking.
“Fan Ge, I really want to thank you this time. Otherwise, this patient would have died on the operating table…” Gu Yun said, her voice tinged with lingering fear.
At that moment, she called him “Fan Ge” with a complete shift in attitude.
“Alright, you handle the rest. I’m stepping out,” said the striking doctor. Though beautiful, Zhang Xiaofan didn’t feel much toward her; he was eager to leave and meet Ye Nan to inquire about the Yin Yang Fish Stone.
After retrieving his silver needles and putting away the instruments, Zhang Xiaofan walked out of the operating room.
Watching his retreating figure, Gu Yun’s eyes gleamed with a strange light—so young, yet possessing such extraordinary skill. From that moment, she was filled with curiosity and admiration.
Outside the operating room, Ye Nan awaited anxiously. Seeing Zhang Xiaofan emerge, he hurried over and asked, “Little brother, how did it go?”
“The patient is no longer in danger, and I traced the root cause of his illness. For a long time to come, he won’t relapse,” Zhang Xiaofan said calmly.
“Thank you so much!” Ye Nan was deeply moved.
The hospital staff nearby wore looks of disbelief—could this man really possess such skill?
Just then, a man in his forties hurried over, changing clothes as he walked.
“How’s the patient?” the man asked the male doctor Zhang Xiaofan had earlier restrained as he reached the operating room door.
“Director Li, you finally arrived! Hurry in and see if the patient is alive or dead!”
It turned out the hurried man was Director Li—the hospital’s most authoritative cardiology expert.
Unaware that the blood-stained patient had already been saved, Director Li was about to enter the operating room when Gu Yun emerged instead.
Zhang Xiaofan had completed most of the work earlier; she only performed a simple check before handing it over to the nurses.
“Xiao Gu, how’s the situation?” Director Li asked upon seeing her.
“The patient is out of danger, and the heart’s vitality is even better than before,” Gu Yun replied earnestly and then approached Zhang Xiaofan. “Fan Ge, would you like to have a meal together sometime? I want to thank you properly.”
Chen Yuanyuan nearby rolled her eyes at Zhang Xiaofan and muttered, “I knew you’d go in there to flirt with the pretty doctor. Now you’re even being called Fan Ge and invited out to eat.”
Zhang Xiaofan looked innocent, thinking to himself, “She’s inviting me to eat; what does that have to do with me? Besides, where’s the flirting? It’s totally a misunderstanding.”
Hearing Chen Yuanyuan’s words, Gu Yun blushed, suddenly recalling he had a girlfriend and feeling that she had been too forward.
At this point, Director Li’s expression darkened sharply. Divorced and recently courting Gu Yun, though over forty, he looked no more than thirty. Seeing Gu Yun act this way ignited his anger.
He stepped forward, his gaze hostile as he said, “Kid, the patient’s condition is stable now, so get lost.”
Zhang Xiaofan’s expression stiffened. So cocky, speaking to me like that?
“Whether I leave or not is none of your business,” Zhang Xiaofan replied coldly.
“Director Li, what are you saying? If Fan Ge hadn’t helped just now, the patient would be dead. She helped me and the hospital—we should be grateful,” Gu Yun immediately said.
“Just him?” Director Li was clearly skeptical.
“If he could really cure heart disease, what would we experts be here for?” Director Li scoffed.
Zhang Xiaofan smiled lightly. “Honestly, I didn’t want to argue with you, but with that attitude, I’m not pleased. You’re just some unknown so-called expert—I don’t even take you seriously…”
“Hahaha, anyone can talk big. I have my medical license and a cardiology specialist certificate. Do you?” Director Li laughed disdainfully.
Zhang Xiaofan smirked; it seemed Director Li wanted to show off.
Turning to Gu Yun, Zhang Xiaofan asked, “Doctor Gu, honestly, how does my skill compare to Director Li’s?”
Damn it, if he wants to show off, I might as well join in.
Director Li looked to Gu Yun, unwilling to believe it. He had always earned her admiration for his skill; how could he be inferior to this kid?
Gu Yun nodded. “Director Li is indeed a cardiology expert, but the surgery Fan Ge performed earlier is something even Director Li couldn’t accomplish. From a professional standpoint, Fan Ge’s skill is somewhat superior.”
She purposely left some room to spare Director Li’s face, though in truth she believed Zhang Xiaofan’s skill far surpassed Li’s—a difference of two levels.
Hearing this, Director Li’s face darkened as if slapped hard across the cheek.
Zhang Xiaofan smiled, thinking, Still want to show off?
Director Li rushed back into the operating room, staring at the monitor showing the patient’s heart rate returning to normal. His eyes widened in shock but he still couldn’t believe it.
He quickly opened the adjacent isolation room and played back the earlier surveillance footage. As he watched, his astonishment only deepened.
This wasn’t just surgery—it was an art. He couldn’t fathom that someone could perform an operation with such finesse.
Shaken, he rushed out again, looked at Zhang Xiaofan, and before many surprised eyes, knelt down. “Divine doctor, please accept me as your disciple!”
Zhang Xiaofan was taken aback. What’s this now? Did he come to understand the situation and was overwhelmed by my skill?
Now that Director Li had knelt, Zhang Xiaofan’s earlier irritation vanished.
“Stand up. My skill is not something you can learn,” Zhang Xiaofan said calmly.
“Divine doctor, I believe if I study seriously, I can learn,” Director Li insisted.
“Then let me ask you—do you have my hands?” Zhang Xiaofan asked.
“No…”
“Do you possess my precise judgment?”
“No…”
“Do you know martial arts?”
“No…”
Zhang Xiaofan smiled. “Exactly. You can’t learn it. Fine, fine, you can study the surgery I just performed. There’s still something to learn.”
Only then did Director Li rise, looking at Zhang Xiaofan with deep respect.
“Tomorrow, I will host a technical seminar to discuss your surgery. It’s unprecedented—no cardiology expert, even internationally advanced ones, can match this level,” Director Li said.
Zhang Xiaofan smiled slightly, impressed by his awareness.
Then he turned to Ye Nan. “Miss Ye, let’s find somewhere to talk.”
