Chapter 84: Preparations for the Auction!
After becoming familiar with his abilities, Lin Han returned home. Because of this event, his recent drop in popularity was instantly reversed, and his name once again topped the trending searches. The news of the world's first triple-advanced Priest quickly swept across the globe.
As soon as the story broke, a flood of reporters were ready at any moment to interview him, but Lin Han had already turned down all their requests. Now, all those persistent journalists were gathered outside his residential complex.
Fortunately, the mayor had arranged for Lin Han's villa to be in a high-end neighborhood, where the security staff were well-educated and cultured. There was no need to worry about them letting the reporters inside.
Lin Han had hardly moved from home these past few days, resting all the while. Now that he was at the center of such a huge news storm, going out was nearly impossible. Moreover, personnel from the surveillance department were constantly monitoring the surroundings of his house.
He could have used his Divine Mask of Freedom to slip out unnoticed, but if the surveillance agents decided to knock on his door while he was gone, that would create a real problem. So, with nothing pressing to do, he decided to treat this period as a holiday and rest properly.
As the days passed, the day of the auction finally arrived. The Millennium Commercial City Auction House was holding its event at eight in the evening, and Lin Han set out early.
The reporters who had blocked the entrance to his neighborhood had all dispersed by now. The scale of the Millennium Commercial City Auction House had far surpassed previous years; many rare treasures were being unveiled, attracting prominent families from all over to bid. Lin Han was no longer the main focus of public attention.
No one seemed to be watching what Lin Han was up to anymore, except for the surveillance department, whose agents still kept a tireless vigil outside his building day and night.
“Boss, boss, Lin Han just left the house!” Teng Zhibo, who had been about to go for a meal, immediately reported the sighting. They had been staking out this spot for nearly half a month and had finally caught Lin Han leaving.
Sun Hu, on the other end, became serious when he received the message. Lin Han had stayed at home for over ten days and was only now heading out in the evening—certainly enough to arouse suspicion.
“Follow him. And don’t lose him like last time. If any of you let him slip away again, don’t bother coming back.” With Sun Hu’s orders, the team quieted down and began converging toward Lin Han’s position.
Sun Hu was certainly capable of such threats—no one ever doubted that.
Lin Han found these surveillance agents exasperating; they were like mangy dogs, impossible to shake off. Worse yet, their tailing methods were utterly clumsy—inept was the only word that came to mind. If he hadn’t been pretending not to notice, anyone else would have spotted them without trying.
They might as well have walked up to him and declared outright, “We’re following you. Please cooperate.”
But Lin Han couldn’t be bothered with them now. If they wanted to follow him, so be it. After all, he wasn’t going anywhere secretive or illicit. Once inside the auction house, he doubted they’d be able to follow.
He then teleported to a spot near the auction house.
“Well, if it isn’t Lin Han, the top scholar himself!”
Gao Chong?
Lin Han turned his head to see Gao Chong swaggering up with a group of hangers-on.
“I heard our illustrious Lin Han has already reached the triple-advancement realm—the first triple-advanced Priest in history. What sort of skills do you have now? Show us something impressive!”
Gao Chong laughed, his words dripping with mockery. “What a pity. For all your talent, none of the Five Great Academies want you.”
Lin Han replied coolly, “Gao Chong, you must be itching for a beating. What’s the matter? Not satisfied with the thrashing you got at the entrance exam?”
“If you miss my fists that much, just say so. I’ll arrange a venue, and I’ll even pay the fees. How about it?”
Gao Chong instinctively took a step back but retorted fiercely, “Don’t get cocky, Lin Han. So what if you’re strong? Without an academy to take you, you’re just a brute. Once I reach the triple-advancement myself, dealing with you will be as easy as crushing an ant.”
“I’ll be waiting,” Lin Han said calmly. “Once you reach triple-advancement, let’s arrange a duel to the death. If you’re not afraid, that is.”
If not for the fact that he felt a bit guilty about having used Gao Chong’s identity before, Lin Han would have knocked him flying by now rather than let him bark here.
“Lin Han, you really don’t fear death, do you?” Gao Chong replied coldly. “Fine, once I reach triple-advancement, I’ll teach you a lesson. My performance at the entrance exam was just an off day—you got lucky. Next time, you won’t be so fortunate.”
“Very well, I’ll wait. I just worry you’ll never succeed in reaching triple-advancement.”
“How laughable—you actually dare challenge our Young Master Gao. You must have a death wish!” one of Gao Chong’s lackeys piped up, eager for a chance to look good in front of his boss.
“Gao Chong, your dog barks rather unpleasantly,” Lin Han remarked, glancing at the lackey—a mere newly double-advanced professional, and no real threat.
“Our Young Master Gao can talk to you civilly, but I won’t!” The lackey’s blood boiled at the insult, and despite knowing Lin Han was now triple-advanced, he showed no fear. After all, what right did a support class have to boast?
Lin Han yawned and threw a punch. The once-arrogant lackey flew like a scrap of paper, landing far away.
“Lin Han, this is the city. Aren’t you afraid the authorities will arrest you for fighting here?”
“Enough. Everyone saw it—it was your lackey who started it. I was only defending myself. What does it have to do with me?” Lin Han replied indifferently, then proceeded toward the auction house.
“Heading this way—are you planning to watch the excitement at the auction?” Gao Chong mused.
“What, do you have some advice for me, Young Master Gao?”
“Hmph!” Gao Chong sneered. “This auction is the grandest event Brightmoon City has seen in a century. Only the wealthy and powerful can get in—it’s not a place for a mere scholar like you.”
He then took out an invitation and smiled. “Events like this are for honored guests like us who were invited. Only we have the right to attend.”
