Chapter 68: The Hunt, Three-Eyed Demon Ape!
“It seems this creature is the Three-Eyed Demon Ape.” Lin Han stood atop a tree, observing the massive beast surrounded by a host of little monkeys.
“The pressure released by this Three-Eyed Demon Ape is far beyond what ordinary gold-level beings can muster. It must be on the verge of advancing.”
“In just a few years, this ape will break through. When it reaches platinum level, the entire Iron Forest will be reshaped.”
“Looking at it this way, this task is truly a trap. For Du Wanting, facing a creature of this strength is nothing but a snare.”
“Even if Wang Qian and Gao Gen had taken on this mission, it would have been like striking a stone with an egg—hopeless. There’s no way to gain anything from this beast.”
“And with this troop of monkeys at its side, it’s simply impossible.”
But now, Lin Han cared little for such concerns. After all, it was just a Three-Eyed Demon Ape, and as for these little monkeys—they could be dealt with together.
“Three-Eyed Demon Ape, your Grandpa Lin has arrived! Kneel before me!”
With those words, Lin Han leapt down.
The Demon Ape sensed the threat and turned its gaze upon the one who had just issued the challenge.
“Damn, this thing is terrifying,” Lin Han couldn’t help but remark. The Demon Ape was enormous, its body layered with muscle, as if a single punch could pierce through a man.
Its jaws were full of fangs tinged with red, reminiscent of years stained by blood.
The crimson third eye inspired fear; any ordinary person who saw it would likely forget even how to flee.
“Three-Eyed Demon Ape, what are you waiting for? Kneel before your Grandpa Lin!”
Lin Han mocked it, hurling a punch that sent a nearby monkey flying.
This act enraged the Demon Ape entirely. It charged at Lin Han, swinging its fist, but Lin Han’s body vanished like a phantom, reappearing atop a distant tree.
“Is that all you’ve got, Demon Ape? Or is your muscle just for show? Maybe the throne of Monkey King should go to me—you’re not up to the task.”
Lin Han scorned it, maximizing his ability to provoke.
The Demon Ape, furious, lunged onto the tree, intent on crushing Lin Han completely. As the region’s overlord, how could it tolerate such provocation?
A sly smile played at Lin Han’s lips as he darted away to another spot, with the Demon Ape hot in pursuit.
Man and ape raced at blinding speed through the treetops, and the troop of monkeys followed relentlessly behind.
“These little monkeys are impossible to shake off. They may not be strong, but their speed is impressive,” Lin Han thought.
His plan was to lure the Demon Ape away, but things weren’t turning out as he’d expected.
If that’s how it is—
Don’t blame me if you die first!
If he didn’t need to bring the Demon Ape to Du Wanting for her finishing blow, he would have already wiped out these monsters with forbidden curses.
Though the Iron Heart artifact wasn’t of much use to him, he needed money; as his own cultivation advanced, his needs grew ever more complex.
But if he kept selling legendary equipment, he’d only attract terrifying beings.
He had no fear of individuals, but if it were a vast clan, a formidable sect, or a major guild, he’d be overwhelmed.
Such is this world: the moment someone stands out, the powers that be will retaliate madly—even threaten him.
Humans fear the unusual most; anything that doesn’t fit in.
Clearly, Lin Han was one of those.
If anyone caught on to his secret, saints and legendary beings would surely come after him.
When that happened, even his millions-strong shield would be nothing.
It would become a contest of forbidden spells—perhaps even great forbidden spells.
Though Lin Han possessed many forbidden skills, he knew that against such beings, he couldn’t win; escape would be his only option.
Just like the mighty mage from the Imperial Investigation Team—though Lin Han’s forbidden spell might surpass that one’s, in true battle, whether in experience or strength, he’d stand no chance against such a powerhouse.
Lin Han was always clear-eyed about his own abilities, never blindly confident.
A duel, one-on-one, is a far cry from destroying a place and seizing the source of catastrophe—they’re two different concepts.
Now, Lin Han’s goal was to survive to the end. Unless he reached the very top of the pyramid, he would never expose himself.
All must proceed slowly!
Lin Han shouted, unleashing a punch. A fierce wave of force swept through, knocking countless monkeys from the trees.
“These little creatures are truly resilient. I hate to kill them—they drop no gear, and at level twenty I can’t absorb their experience.”
“What a waste.”
Dodging the Demon Ape’s attacks, Lin Han struck down the monkeys one by one, gradually heading in Du Wanting’s direction.
...
“Gao Gen, can you sense it?”
Wang Qian watched a certain direction warily.
Gao Gen replied calmly, “I feel it. Seems like someone’s fighting. Could it be Gao Chong and his companion?”
“Not sure. Let’s go over. If it’s really Chong and his brother, we can help. Even if it’s those two from Public Security, having allies is good right now.”
“But there’s another possibility,” Gao Gen mused. “It might be the old man. Perhaps he’s up to something.”
“Should we wait?”
Wang Qian suggested, “We could wait for the battle to end, then see what happened. If it’s the old man, disturbing him now may not be wise. If he’s in a killing mood, we wouldn’t be able to escape.”
Gao Gen agreed, “Let’s move closer and observe after the fight.”
“If it’s really Gao Chong and his companion, whether they survive will depend on their luck. If they run into a gold-level creature, they can only blame their misfortune.”
