“They’re coming!”
With Wang Qian’s furious shout, everyone instantly fell into a state of high alert.
A tiger’s roar echoed from the forest, and a fearsome black-and-white beast emerged, eyeing the group with predatory intent.
Wang Qian cursed under his breath. “Just our luck—barely started and already we’ve run into a Steel-Striped Tiger at the Gold level. This is trouble.”
“Those monsters are incredibly strong, and their defenses are nothing to scoff at. Gao Gen, be careful.”
“Like I need you to tell me that!” Gao Gen tensed up as well; this was a Gold-ranked monster, and the pressure of facing it was overwhelming.
Fortunately, with two level-thirty professionals on their side, it shouldn’t be too difficult to deal with—as long as they acted with caution, there shouldn’t be any casualties.
Lin Han stood beside Du Wanting and murmured, “Don’t get any closer. This isn’t something we can handle. If anything goes wrong, just run with me.”
“All... all right.” Du Wanting was momentarily stunned. She sensed something familiar about this person, yet he felt utterly foreign.
An illusion? She’d never seen him before—surely it was just her imagination.
Lin Han scanned their surroundings. The situation was hardly simple; greater dangers were surely on the way.
...
Suddenly, the Steel-Striped Tiger sprang forward, lunging directly at Wang Qian.
“Guard and battle are two sides of the same coin.”
“My sword strikes down evil from all directions; my shield protects the lives of a thousand souls!”
“Honored God of Knights, I am your most devoted follower. Grant me your strength, and I shall uphold your legacy in all four corners!”
With Wang Qian’s chant, a sword and shield materialized in his hands. He raised the shield just in time to block the tiger’s ferocious bite, then slashed with his sword—a resounding clang of metal rang out.
“Damn, that’s tough!” Wang Qian swore, hastily retreating to keep some distance from the beast. That last strike felt as though he’d hit solid steel; he even saw sparks fly from the tiger’s hide.
Gao Gen said, “Let’s attack together. This Steel-Striped Tiger’s body is as hard as iron. We can’t drag this out, or it’ll wear us down!”
“Venerated God of Assassins, grant me the ultimate power of stealth!”
“Let assassination be the creed of my life!”
“Let you be the sole object of my devotion!”
As Gao Gen vanished, a ghostly aura enveloped him.
Third-tier Shadow Assassin—an advanced combat class.
The two warriors exchanged a glance and launched their assault. In the blink of an eye, they were locked in a fierce battle with the Steel-Striped Tiger. As two primary combat classes, they quickly gained the upper hand.
“They’re so strong,” Du Wanting couldn’t help but remark.
Lin Han smiled. “Combat classes are always impressive, especially with the professions those two have. Maybe not as overpowered as some hidden classes, but still, the backbone of any team.”
“Gao Gen’s probably an assassin. That’s why at the third tier he could advance to a Shadow Assassin. For thieves like myself, I’d have to wait until the fourth tier to reach that class.”
“It’s enough to make you jealous, isn’t it?”
Du Wanting tried to comfort him. “Every profession has its own purpose. There’s no need to worry about that. You look about our age—you’ve still got a long road ahead.”
“You’re pretty thoughtful for someone so young,” Lin Han laughed.
Du Wanting shook her head and gazed into the distance, thinking, “Once you’ve seen true strength, you realize how much you still have to strive for. You can’t just stay where you are—you have to keep moving forward.”
“Only by reaching those heights yourself can you travel the world without a care.”
...
“Damn it, this Steel-Striped Tiger is just too tough—I can’t seem to kill it!” Wang Qian’s sword sent a shower of sparks across the beast’s hide.
The tiger retaliated, biting and charging. Wang Qian braced himself with his shield, enduring the impact, but was knocked back several meters by the force.
Meanwhile, Gao Gen appeared at the tiger’s flank, slashing repeatedly, but could only force the beast back—not truly injure it.
“If this keeps up, it’ll wear us out sooner or later,” Gao Gen muttered, quickly pulling back to a safe distance.
Lin Han sighed inwardly. Did none of these people ever study? The textbooks clearly stated the Steel-Striped Tiger’s weak spot. Monsters as common as this had their information thoroughly documented!
“Gao, Wang—attack its belly! That’s its weakest spot,” Lin Han called out.
Gao Gen didn’t hesitate. He charged beneath the tiger, gathering all his strength, and stabbed upward.
Success!
He’d only meant to try, but didn’t expect it to work so well.
“Gao Chong, nice work. You really know your stuff.” Gao Gen quickly withdrew, praising him.
...What a bunch of slackers. Did you people learn nothing at school? This is basic knowledge! How did you all end up with main combat professions, while I, the top student, am stuck as a Priest?
Damn heavens, it’s just not fair!
Lin Han said tactfully, “It’s all in the textbook. I just graduated, so it’s fresh in my mind. Ask Du Wanting if you don’t believe me.”
Caught off guard, Du Wanting replied awkwardly, “That’s right, I think we did learn that.”
...
How did a top student end up in our team? Why ask me something like that? How should I know if the textbook covered the Steel-Striped Tiger’s weak spot? Who pays attention to that? Top students really are annoying!
“Gao Gen, draw its attention. I’ll sneak attack its belly!” Without waiting, Gao Gen’s body moved like a wandering spirit.
“Alright!” Wang Qian was emboldened. Now that they knew the tiger’s weakness, it was nothing to fear.
With new confidence, Wang Qian launched a full assault, sword clashing head-on with the Steel-Striped Tiger.
Gao Gen seized the opportunity, stabbing again and again at the tiger’s vulnerable underside.
Wounded, the Steel-Striped Tiger retreated, eyeing the group with wary hostility.
“Not so cocky now, are you, little tiger? Come on!”
With the upper hand, Wang Qian and Gao Gen began to show off, jeering, “I’ll skin you and make armor out of your hide! How dare you mess with me now, you filthy beast!”
