Chapter 69: The Old Woman Versus the Ex-Girlfriend
“Old woman, I—”
Bang!
Beeep, beeep, beeep…
Lu Ye didn’t even manage to finish his sentence.
Su Qianqian only heard a loud bang, and then she was out of the service area.
At that moment, Lu Ye was being hunted.
He happened to escape to a desolate, undeveloped tract of land in Jiangbei.
No sooner had he answered the call than his phone was blasted to pieces by a whizzing pellet!
He was furious—he’d never hung up on the old woman on purpose before.
And now his ex-girlfriend was involved; she’d certainly start overthinking things!
He turned around and roared at his relentless pursuers, “Damn it, I was just answering a call from my wife! Why wouldn’t you let me finish?”
Behind him, three men and a woman were momentarily stunned. “You’re going to die anyway. Does answering a call really matter?”
Lu Ye sneered, “At least let me die knowing why! Who wants me dead?”
The four threatened, “You’ve been impersonating members of Y6, stirring up trouble everywhere. Did you think you wouldn’t pay for it?”
Damn!
So the real ones had arrived!
Outnumbered, Lu Ye nonetheless struck first.
He launched himself at the only female among the four.
Bang!
She exchanged a direct punch with him and was sent staggering back more than ten steps.
The other three were secretly shocked and immediately moved in to assist.
Lu Ye quickly disengaged and retreated, unknowingly stretching out the line of battle. Among them, a skinny one was clearly faster and began to gain on Lu Ye.
“Kid, stop running!”
Unexpectedly, Lu Ye spun around and whipped a high roundhouse kick, the wind whistling as it struck the skinny man’s head.
Bang!
The skinny one collapsed to the side, dazed and reeling.
Two pursuers remained, still relentless.
Suddenly Lu Ye stopped running and assumed the opening stance of Wing Chun.
The two exchanged glances, then rushed forward, engaging him at close quarters!
They couldn’t follow his moves at all—no way to block, let alone counter.
Lu Ye’s fists moved too swiftly; all they could see were countless afterimages…
Smack, smack, smack, smack, smack!
“Ow! Ow!”
Before long, two fresh pig heads had been produced.
The girl Lu Ye had blasted away earlier finally arrived, only to find her three male teammates utterly incapacitated.
Lu Ye stared at her. “Want to keep going?”
She froze, color draining from her face, and shook her head.
All four of us together can’t take him!
What now?
Lu Ye grinned, “Then surrender quietly.”
The girl nodded obediently, but suddenly launched a black pellet from her sleeve!
Whoosh!
A sneak attack, perfectly timed.
But she hadn’t expected Lu Ye to be prepared—the speeding pellet was caught in his hand!
He held it up, examining it closely. That was what had destroyed his phone moments ago.
It looked utterly ordinary—just a simple iron pellet.
But a blow to the head from this thing would surely send blood flying…
“You’re not very honest, are you, little sister?” Lu Ye grinned wickedly, rolling the iron pellet in his palm as he stepped toward her.
The girl panicked. “Don’t come any closer!”
Since the Y6 crew had been out for blood from the start, Lu Ye had no intention of showing mercy.
“Lu, stop!”
Suddenly, a familiar voice called out to him.
He turned to see a figure emerge from the weeds…
When he saw the person’s face, Lu Ye was stunned!
Wu Qing?
The girl instantly looked as if she’d found her savior. “Ambassador Wu, help!”
Wu Qing looked at Lu Ye, then at the girl. “What are you all doing?”
“Lu is someone I personally invited into Y6. How could you act without telling me first?”
Lu Ye immediately understood: Y6 really had a permanent ambassador in Mingzhu City!
And that ambassador was Wu—
Damn, what a case of hiding in plain sight!
He’d been playing cat and mouse with spies all day, only to miss the big fish right under his nose?
Since Wu Qing was now openly covering for him, Lu Ye decided not to press the issue with the group.
When Wu Qing sent them all away, only Lu Ye remained.
They sat side by side on a haystack by the river.
Wu Qing spoke frankly, “Lu, you must have guessed by now: I’m the permanent Y6 ambassador in Mingzhu City.”
Lu Ye nodded. “Who were those four?”
Wu Qing explained, “They were just transferred here from out of town. As soon as they arrived, they told me someone was impersonating Y6 members and causing trouble. I never expected them to target you outright.”
Lu Ye nodded again. “Why did you cover for me just now?”
Wu Qing smiled mysteriously. “I can’t tell you yet, but you’ll find out in time.”
He added, “Lu, you can be sure of one thing: I won’t harm you.”
Lu Ye gave a bitter smile. “Honestly, I know nothing about Y6. A single promise from you isn’t enough to put me at ease.”
Wu Qing replied, “You can keep using Y6’s name for whatever you want to do. I’ll clean up after you. Isn’t that enough?”
“That’ll do.”
At least so far, Wu Qing hadn’t shown any hostility, nor had he done anything questionable despite lurking so long at the club.
If not for today’s surprise, Wu Qing might have remained quietly hidden at Yi Ren Club.
Thinking of Y6’s operating style—gathering intelligence but not disrupting society—Lu Ye was somewhat reassured.
Though sheltering a master spy felt like sitting on a time bomb, if he wanted to bring down the Hongying Society, he’d need the leverage Y6 could provide.
Since Wu Qing was willing to cooperate for now, that was for the best.
As for the future, he’d deal with it when it came.
…
Meanwhile, back with Su Qianqian.
She’d met with Cai Yueyao, and the encounter had nearly come to blows.
In the conference room of Yueyao Real Estate,
Cai Yueyao laughed brazenly, “Oh, so I stole your business? I must be amazing! Ha ha!”
Su Qianqian, fuming, slapped the table and scolded, “Hey, don’t go too far! I’d already closed the Tan Dong project last week!”
Cai Yueyao stuck out her tongue. “But I signed the contract first—nanny nanny boo boo.”
Ugh, infuriating!
That little vixen—how could his ex be even more wretched than he was?
But the contract had already been signed, and the initiative was in Cai Yueyao’s hands. There was nothing to say.
Su Qianqian took a deep breath, fighting to control her anger, and spoke gently, “Miss Cai, I stayed up late for four or five nights putting this proposal together. Would you consider letting me have it back?”
It wasn’t just about closing Tan Dong’s deal; this was the first step for Yi Ren Group’s expansion into Licheng.
So Su Qianqian had no choice but to swallow her pride and plead.
Cai Yueyao’s eyes darted mischievously. “Sure! Give me your husband back, and I’ll give you the project. Fair, right?”
Su Qianqian’s temper exploded. She slammed the table and shouted, “You’re too much! I’ve put up with you long enough!”
Cai Yueyao slammed the table back. “I’ve put up with you long enough, old woman! If you’re not happy, let’s fight!”
“Bring it on!”
“Let’s go!”
Both women glared, eyes wide.
One rolled up her sleeves and grabbed the table, the other hiked up her pant legs and seized a chair…
Just then, Su Qianqian’s phone rang.
The caller ID: Little Wretch
Lu Ye had just bought a new phone and was eager to call and apologize.
Su Qianqian answered imperiously, “Hello? I’m in the middle of a fight! Whatever it is, wait until I get back!”
“My dear ancestor, whatever you do, don’t fight her!”
Su Qianqian grumbled, “What, you think I can’t beat her?”
“She used to be my comrade-in-arms, you know. One punch from her could kill you!”
“What the hell?”
Su Qianqian glanced at Cai Yueyao, who was holding a desk weighing dozens of kilograms over her head without breaking a sweat.
“Talk it out, both of you. Old woman, wait for me—I’m heading to Licheng right now!”
The call ended, and Su Qianqian was still in shock.
Cai Yueyao taunted, “So, old woman, do you still want to fight?”
