Chapter 119: The Wuling Hongguang Is Totaled
"Bang!"
Chen Xi kicked the deformed car door off its hinges and crawled out. A large, dark purple bruise marred her fair forehead.
Lin Zhongze, Zhang Li, and Wei Xin simultaneously surrounded Ivanka from three other directions. The Mazda MX-5 Ivanka had been driving was a convertible, leaving her head completely unprotected. She was far more severely injured than Chen Xi, with half of her body pinned under the overturned vehicle.
"Argh!"
Summoning every ounce of her strength, Ivanka managed to lift the side of the car just enough to roll out.
"Don't move."
Chen Xi pinched a flying swallow throwing knife between two fingers, pressing the tip against Ivanka's carotid artery. Ivanka scanned her surroundings with composure; a dozen agents had her tightly encircled, and Lu Ye and Beauty Meng had arrived on the scene within half a minute. Heavily injured and moving sluggishly, she knew that even if she used her supernatural abilities, escape was impossible.
Seeing Lu Ye step out of the BMW M3, covered in wounds, Chen Xi slapped Ivanka across the face. Ivanka glared at her in fury.
Chen Xi scolded, "What are you glaring at? Who told you to hurt my brother like this?"
Ivanka felt a sudden sense of injustice. "How are my injuries any lighter than your brother's?"
Chen Xi scoffed, "You deserve it."
They were less than five kilometers from the American overseas base, and reinforcements could arrive at any moment to rescue Ivanka. This was no place to linger.
Lu Ye commanded, "Notify the transport plane to prepare for takeoff. We are heading home!"
Though she had been captured, Ivanka sneered, "You’ve caused so much trouble here in Japan, and you think you can just turn around and leave?"
Lu Ye frowned. Did this woman have an ace up her sleeve?
A thunderous roar of rotor blades cutting through the air echoed from above. A helicopter suddenly appeared, cresting the hill behind them. It hovered directly over Lu Ye and his team.
Chen Xi recognized it instantly. "It’s the Nichijo Agency, one of Japan's three major intelligence organizations." She had clashed with them before while intercepting a hard drive.
Although the American overseas base could not directly intervene in Japanese affairs, they could certainly instruct the three major Japanese intelligence agencies to assist Ivanka. This was her final line of defense. The helicopter was only responsible for aerial surveillance and tracking; the main force of the Nichijo Agency was likely already speeding toward them.
Ivanka smiled triumphantly. "Capturing me alive won't be as easy as you think."
Lu Ye smiled back. "I’m truly sorry, but I never intended to take you alive."
*Pfft!*
A black dagger plunged straight through Ivanka's chest.
She clearly had not expected Lu Ye to be so decisive and ruthless. The look of confusion in her eyes remained even as she drew her last breath. In this era of peace, Ivanka, with her precognitive abilities, was a greater deterrent than a nuclear weapon. Capturing her alive would have been a monumental achievement.
However, Lu Ye never cared for hollow fame; he only sought to complete the mission assigned by Chen Xiaoting securely. Ivanka alive was a ticking time bomb, filled with too many variables. That was why, from the very beginning, Lu Ye had never considered capturing her.
"Move!"
Abandoning Ivanka, Lu Ye immediately led his team to their vehicles and fled the scene. The helicopter overhead pursued them relentlessly; they could not shake it off.
Liu Yiyi remained in Lin Zhongze's car, maintaining the flow of intelligence. She said over the radio, "They have set up heavy roadblocks on the way to the airport."
Ivanka’s sudden death would surely infuriate their adversaries. Once the three major Japanese intelligence agencies gathered to hunt down the Apostles, escaping would become even more difficult.
Lu Ye ordered, "Before they impose air traffic control, tell the transport plane to take off and wait in the sky."
"Understood."
Lu Ye’s Wuling Hongguang had been completely totaled. It was the first gift the "Old Woman" had given him, and he couldn't take it back. He felt a silent pang of heartache. He took the lead in his BMW M3, carrying Chen Xi and Beauty Meng, tearing along the Japanese coastline at over two hundred kilometers per hour.
Ivanka’s body was soon delivered to the American overseas military base. A soldier in camouflage lifted the shroud to confirm her identity. He wept in sorrow, whispering to himself, "Ivanka, my beloved woman. I swear in the name of a husband, I will send those damned agents to the grave with you!"
His name was Max, the commander of this overseas base. He held another identity: he was Ivanka's husband. Ivanka was a notorious spy leader who had committed countless atrocities worldwide. Her organization had long been labeled a global enemy, so Max could not openly send reinforcements; he had to protect his own position. He had assumed the others would capture Ivanka alive, given that she was a prophet capable of altering the world's landscape. He never imagined Lu Ye would ignore all conventions and eliminate the threat once and for all.
Max was driven to madness. He barked at his Japanese aide, "Keep those bastards in Japan!"
The aide bowed immediately. "Yes!"
The Nichijo Agency helicopter clung to them like a maggot on a rotting bone. Lu Ye floored the accelerator, but he couldn't shake it. As they careened into the main road of the city, black sedans began merging from side roads, flanking the Apostles. It became a real-life scene from a movie—*Tokyo Drift*.
Fortunately, everyone behind the wheel was a seasoned driver, playing games with the pursuit vehicles of the three intelligence agencies. With Liu Yiyi monitoring satellite imagery to provide manual navigation, Lu Ye wove through narrow alleys and side streets, leaving the pursuers in the dust. The complex architectural layout forced the Nichijo helicopter to climb, preventing it from continuing its reckless low-altitude tracking.
At the back of the convoy, Zhang Li asked over the radio, "Captain, where are we going? My car is almost out of fuel!"
Lu Ye replied, "Don't panic, we're almost there."
"Old Brother, accelerate to my right and stay side-by-side with me!"
"Zhang Li, Wei Xin, pull up to the rear of my car and Lin’s car, forming a two-by-two formation. Hold your positions and don't break ranks."
Though confused as to what Lu Ye was planning, everyone followed his orders. The four cars converged into a neat square formation, racing across the city via the elevated highway. The roadblocks of the three intelligence agencies had all been diverted to guard the airport.
At the end of the main road, instead of heading toward the airport, Lu Ye chose a route in the opposite direction. Even the Nichijo helicopter didn't react in time. By the time it circled back, it found that the four cars had already stormed through the toll station of the intercity expressway.
*Whoosh!*
A powerful roar of engines echoed from the sky. A massive transport plane slowly descended toward the straight, eight-lane expressway, touching down less than fifty meters in front of Lu Ye and Lin Zhongze.
The transport plane maintained high speed as it landed. The rear ramp lowered, forming a ramp between the ground and the belly of the plane, sending a spray of sparks flying. Lu Ye and Lin Zhongze accelerated simultaneously, driving up the ramp and into the depths of the cargo hold, leaving enough space for Zhang Li and Wei Xin.
Once they had safely driven inside, the hatch sealed shut. The transport plane accelerated, soared into the sky, and vanished into the clouds.
The Nichijo agents in the helicopter trailing behind were left dumbfounded.
*What in the world... was that?*
Once the cars were secured, everyone sat on the floor of the cabin, still stunned.
"Holy cow, that was insane!"
"I can't believe you thought of having the plane pick us up on the highway, Captain. You're a legend."
"Hahaha, those Japanese devils must be looking like idiots right now!"
