The Male Lead Who Never Likes to Eat (Chapter 20)
Si Jiu dashed into the elevator in one breath, finally letting her hands fall. The system was startled. “Oh dear, Host Daddy, what happened to you? Why are you crying so hard? Is this really so emotional?”
Tears streamed down Si Jiu’s face, and she sobbed in agony. “Damn it, the chili peppers burned my eyes.”
Just moments ago, she had been cleaning chili peppers, using her fingers to split them open and remove the seeds inside. The Xu family had a penchant for spicy food, and all the green peppers they bought were fiery. Si Jiu had gotten too caught up in her performance and forgot—she pressed her hands to her face, and now both eyes were burning, tears unstoppable, unable to open.
“Ugh... kid, quick, give me Xie Yu’s location, ugh…”
The system was utterly bewildered.
“It’s such a perfect opportunity, I can’t let it go to waste. Ugh… Do I look especially wretched right now?”
The system observed her carefully and offered an honest assessment. “Not wretched... but definitely pitiful.”
Now it understood Si Jiu’s plan. It quickly checked, “Xie Yu is on his way home, almost there. But your hands still smell like chili.”
“No worries, I’ll wash them in a bit.”
Si Jiu rushed out of the complex and hailed a cab.
The taxi driver glanced at the girl crying her heart out, feeling both awkward and a bit concerned. “Hey, miss, don’t cry. If something’s wrong, talk to Uncle. I might not be able to help, but I can be your emotional trash can.”
This uncle was kind-hearted and surprisingly endearing.
“Uncle, I’m fine, ugh…”
The driver recalled how she’d just run out wearing slippers, and seemed to understand. “Did you have a fight with your family? Well, there’s no lasting grudge between family members. Arguments pass quickly. Don’t be sad, okay? You ran out like this, your family will worry.”
“Uncle, I didn’t argue with anyone.”
“Oh? Then why…”
“I just found a huge nest of cockroaches at home and got so scared I cried, ugh…”
The driver was both amused and exasperated. “…But you can’t just run out like that. How big could the cockroaches be to scare you so much?”
“They were so big, ugh… I almost died of fright. So now I’m going to find someone to help me deal with them, and comfort my fragile soul, ugh…”
The driver nearly burst out laughing.
“Uncle, could you drive faster? I’m terrified, ugh… I urgently need comfort.”
“Going to see your boyfriend?” The driver gave her a knowing smile. “Sit tight now, Uncle’s going to speed up.”
“Uncle, don’t speed.”
“Don’t worry.”
With the driver’s banter, her eyes didn’t hurt quite as badly.
Si Jiu was driven home at breakneck speed by the kind uncle.
“Where’s Xie Yu?”
“In his study.”
Si Jiu acknowledged with a soft sound, climbed the stairs, and stealthily opened her door. Mantou, ever alert, must have heard her coming and was waiting behind the door. As soon as she entered, Mantou pounced, about to bark. Si Jiu was quick; she grabbed its muzzle.
“Hush... be good, I’ll give you a treat later.”
Mantou wagged its tail and obediently stayed quiet.
Si Jiu tiptoed into the bathroom and, with a grimace, rubbed her eyes again.
The system commented, “What a heartless wolf!”
“Ahhh... ugh…”
The system protested, “Your acting is so good, you could cry if you wanted. Why put yourself through this pain? There’s no need, Host Daddy.”
“Look, are my eyes red? Swollen?”
They were redder than before, and even more swollen. The system instantly understood and fell silent.
Si Jiu washed her hands three times with soap, sniffed them—no longer smelled like chili, though the burning pain remained.
Clearly, Lin Yang truly loved Xu Weiwan; he knew her well.
Si Jiu immediately left the bathroom. Before heading out, she tossed her phone and keys onto the shoe cabinet, shut the door tightly, walked to Xie Yu’s door, and sat down, hugging her knees—weak, pitiful, and helpless.
“Kid, think of a way to get Xie Yu to open the door.”
The system replied, “Host Daddy, you always have the best tricks.”
