The Number One Male Lead Who Hates Eating, Part Five
She let out a breath. “Smiling suits you much better. That’s more like it.”
Si Jiu blinked, then reached out and hugged her.
“By the way, Wanwan, it’s been several days since your last stream, hasn’t it?”
Si Jiu had not yet fully sorted through the host’s memories, but when she heard the word “stream” for the second time, related fragments immediately surfaced in her mind.
Xu Weiwang was a streamer, the kind who never showed her face, a food streamer. Most of the time, her broadcasts were simply her eating—no face, only the food on camera. Occasionally, she would stream herself cooking too—still no face, only her hands.
She did not have many followers, only around one hundred thousand, which in the streaming world made her little more than an obscure nobody.
“I’ve had a lot going on these past few days, so I haven’t had a chance to go live.”
From that one sentence, Zhao Yue could tell at once that Wanwan was hiding something. It might be related to this suicide attempt. At a time like this, she did not want to make Wanwan remember anything painful, so she patted her gently. “No rush. Get your strength back first.”
The two of them chatted a while longer, and afterward Zhao Yue shamelessly squeezed onto the hospital bed with Si Jiu and slept there. Song Fei curled up pitifully in a chair and dozed off.
Si Jiu, meanwhile, was speaking to the system in her mind.
[I can barely manage instant noodles, and you gave me a host who knows how to cook? What were you thinking?]
The system did not answer for a long time. Just as Si Jiu was about to fall asleep, a soft chime finally sounded.
[Home-style cooking recipes. How to make a dish in three minutes.pdf. My years as a master chef.txt.]
[Xu Weiwang is not a master chef. She is merely a food streamer, and only when she is in a very bad mood does she occasionally stream herself cooking. This is just her way of relieving stress; it is not something you are required to maintain.]
Si Jiu: [Then why did you send me so many recipes?]
[After all, I thought that in order to move into the Central City, you might be willing to work a little harder on the mission, meow?]
Si Jiu fell silent for a while, then opened Home-Style Cooking: One Hundred Dishes.
Five minutes later, she had fallen asleep.
The system: She really is exactly like those failing students who get sleepy the moment they open a textbook.
The next morning, the doctor came by on rounds around eight. Song Fei brought breakfast up for Si Jiu, and Zhao Yue also went to Si Jiu’s home to fetch some changes of clothes and other necessities.
Si Jiu was determined to find the male lead and insisted on being discharged.
The doctor’s face darkened like the bottom of a pot. “With your condition, you need at least three days of observation in the hospital.”
“But I really feel fine now.”
Zhao Yue was astonished by Si Jiu’s stubbornness. One had to know, this friend of hers had a personality as soft as kneaded dough; she almost never objected to requests or opinions from other people.
“Wanwan, you should still listen to the doctor,” Zhao Yue urged.
Si Jiu held the spoon and stirred the thin rice porridge in her bowl. She did not say a word, but her resistance was obvious.
The doctor instantly had a splitting headache and said irritably, “You young people never take your own bodies seriously, always pushing yourselves to the limit. You’ll regret it someday.
“At the very least, stay until today is over. That’s nonnegotiable.”
After speaking, he could not help muttering under his breath, “One after another, all of you are enough to make anyone angry.”
Si Jiu was a little taken aback. Even with a mask on, the doctor clearly did not look older than thirty-five—so why was he talking about “you young people” with such an old-fashioned air?
And what did he mean, one after another?
Still puzzled, she suddenly heard a swish as the curtain beside her was drawn open.
Si Jiu jumped in fright. She truly had not expected someone to be in that bed.
After all, last night there had been one disturbance after another on her side, and there had not been the slightest movement from there.
She turned her head and met a pair of cool, clear eyes.
Si Jiu: The male lead!
System: Not necessarily. How can you be sure before even touching him?
The tall young man, long-legged and wearing a mask, merely glanced at Si Jiu indifferently before looking away. Then he got up and walked out.
The doctor frowned. “We’re on rounds. Where do you think you’re going?”
“Going back.”
“Stay where you are.” The doctor pressed a hand to the young man’s shoulder. “Get checked again today. You’re staying a full week before you’re allowed out.”
Si Jiu suddenly did not want to be discharged anymore.
