Chapter Sixty-Two: Fierce Battle—The Might of the Divine Dragon King (Part One)
As soon as the Primordial Dragon King appeared, its arrival was earth-shattering, making everyone present seem utterly insignificant by comparison. The beast first inhaled and exhaled the elements of heaven and earth, then fixed its enormous gaze upon the assembled crowd. The moment their eyes met the Dragon King’s, everyone involuntarily shuddered. Those eyes were absolutely cold, merciless, and piercing, reminiscent of a venomous serpent’s stare.
With another resounding roar, the Dragon King lifted its head to the sky. Unlike its previous two bellows, this time its voice was not just a furious howl. Invisible sound waves rippled outward with the force of its cry.
Seeing the Dragon King’s chilling gaze, everyone hastened to raise their shields in preparation before the sound waves reached them. All but Gu Feng, who stood motionless as if lost in a trance.
“Be careful!” Mu Tou, realizing the Dragon King’s overwhelming might, knew he alone could not protect Gu Feng, Mu Siyu, and the Great Sage. In desperation, he shouted, “Celestial of the Clouds!”
At his call, a woman in white palace robes appeared soundlessly, her snow-white feet bare, floating in midair. She held aloft a pair of golden, radiant scissors—none other than the legendary artifact, the Golden Dragon Shears. With her arrival came a dragon’s roar, as a black dragon emerged from the shears. Its body, originally a dozen feet long, expanded in the wind until it stretched over forty feet, thick as a barrel.
The black dragon weaved through the air, blocking the Dragon King’s sound waves from reaching Mu Tou and his companions. Those not under the black dragon’s protection, such as Flame Demon, Shui Rou’er, and several Sword Saints, had their shields shattered by the sound waves and collapsed to the ground clutching their ears, blood streaming from their nose and mouth—gravely injured with a single strike.
Within the arena, only Mu Tou’s group and four other powerful figures, along with the elves, seemed unharmed.
“Gu Feng, what are you doing?” Mu Tou shouted in frustration, unable to understand why Gu Feng would space out at such a critical moment.
“I… I’ve triggered my advancement quest! The system just prompted me—I can advance to S-level!” Gu Feng exclaimed joyfully. In the Plane System, one could progress from E to A-level by accumulating enough reward points and energy crystals. But to reach S-level, more than just points and energy were required—one had to meet a special, unknown condition, unique to each plane agent.
Every agent yearned for S-level. The reason was simple: it was said that S-level agents could exchange for divinity or rare artifacts, gaining not only overwhelming power and skills, but also eternal life.
However, when they heard Gu Feng had triggered his S-level quest, no one felt happy for him. Under the pressure of this monstrous beast, survival alone was a challenge—how could one possibly complete an S-level quest?
Looking again to the Dragon King, its legendary “Dragon’s Breath” had yet to be unleashed. Just one roar had already incapacitated half the group; perhaps only the four strongest could still stand against it.
“Ancient Martial Prohibited Sword, Hundred Blade Slaughter!” With a mighty roar, Bai Li Lion unleashed a hundred golden beams at the Dragon King—the same technique he’d just used against the Demon Emperor. Yet everyone doubted whether this move could inflict any harm. The Primordial Dragon King was said to surpass even the dragons of the ancient magical age, its body over three hundred feet long, each scale as thick as a shield, glimmering dark silver in the sky.
“Ancient Martial Prohibited Sword, Golden Shadow Strike!” Without waiting for the Hundred Blade Slaughter to land, Bai Li Lion unleashed his signature move. This time, empowered by the life’s essence of the fallen fifth powerhouse, the sword not only pierced the Dragon King’s scales but sent sword energy bursting out its back in a spray of blood and flesh.
The Dragon King howled in pain, its massive form recoiling. This single strike lifted everyone’s spirits: perhaps the Dragon King was not invincible after all.
Yet as the Dragon King’s roars continued, its body began to transform, shrinking steadily until it was just over ten feet tall. Though still imposing, it no longer radiated the oppressive presence of a hundred-foot titan. Its new form was more humanoid, though the head retained its draconic features, a thick tail protruded from its back, and along its spine from head to tail grew sharp spines. Its body was still covered in dark silver scales that shone with a metallic luster, and behind it, three pairs of wings spread wide, keeping it aloft.
From afar, the legendary Primordial Dragon King now resembled a gigantic dragonfly.
The crowd was stunned by this transformation, but the elven High Priestess cried out, “Careful! This is its battle form!” At the same time, the voice of the Intrepid One resonated: “Warning! Danger! Target is extremely dangerous! Recommend immediate retreat!”
Mu Tou gave a bitter laugh, “Retreat? The entire space is sealed—where would we go?”
Indeed, as the Dragon King transformed, Mu Tou sensed overwhelming danger and had already been seeking escape routes. Yet when the Dragon King appeared and inhaled the world’s elements, the entire space also changed. Clearly, the ancient mages had left a fail-safe—this entire area was likely part of the Sixfold Curse.
As the transformation completed, the Dragon King unleashed a long roar, but this time it was not a sound attack. Shaking its neck, it began to spew flames. The sky ignited at once, fire sweeping across the heavens.
“Ancient Forbidden Spell: Flame Canopy!”
No one expected the Dragon King to begin with a forbidden spell. They had read of such magic only in chronicles; never had they seen a living creature wield one. Yet the Dragon King conjured forbidden spells as easily as breathing.
For ordinary folk or low-level mages, such area-of-effect forbidden spells would be lethal. But to Mu Tou and his companions, the threat was minor. The Celestial of the Clouds directed the black dragon, which shielded not only Mu Tou’s group but also the elven High Priestess and her kin.
As for the four highest-ranked warriors, such magic could not harm them. Xiu Si and Bai Li Lion each swept their swords before them, slicing through the approaching flames with arcs of sword energy as easily as cutting paper. The other two dispatched the fire with equal ease, appearing relaxed and untroubled.
The Dragon King, seeing its attack thwarted, let out another roar. The elements churned, and three pillars of wind descended from the sky, forming a triangle to encircle the group.
“Ancient Forbidden Spell: Whirling Dragon Dance.”
This time, it was a wind-based forbidden spell—breaking the ordinary restriction that one could master only a single magical element. Though its single-target power far surpassed the fire spell, the group easily evaded it.
Was this, then, the so-called mightiest Primordial Dragon King in history? These forbidden spells were devastating to mortals and cities; but to the highest-ranked warriors, it was like firing a cannon at a fly—overkill and useless. Doubt gnawed at everyone’s hearts.
“The most terrifying thing about the Dragon King is not these forbidden spells,” the elven High Priestess intoned, her face ashen since the Dragon King’s appearance. Now, accepting the reality of its arrival, she hid behind her kin, muttering with the Great Sage, who withdrew a strange, black disk and began to trace patterns over its surface. Mu Tou glanced at it and felt as if he were staring into the depths of the universe itself; even a brief look nearly drew his mind into its darkness. With danger looming, he quickly averted his gaze.
“According to elven records, the Dragon King’s most fearsome trait is its ability to learn. It can master its enemies’ skills in battle. In the ancient magical era, no fewer than ten masters joined forces to defeat it—only three survived,” the High Priestess declared.
Mu Tou’s heart lurched. “You mean… it can use all ten masters’ techniques?”
The High Priestess nodded. Sure enough, as she spoke, the Dragon King roared again—not to unleash a forbidden spell, but to reach out with its right hand and seize a whirling column of wind from the sky, compressing it into a spear. In a flash, it vanished from sight, reappearing with the spear driven through the Flame Demon’s body, grinding flesh and bone to dust. Its tail lashed out, catching Shui Rou’er as she tried to flee; her skull was shattered, ending her life instantly. Two among the Six Great Sages—revered as the strongest below the supreme level, worshipped by thousands—were slain in a single, casual strike.
“Spatial magic… teleportation,” Gu Feng murmured. Among all schools of magic, teleportation was the most mysterious—and Gu Feng’s specialty. Yet by the Dragon King’s hand, magic and martial skill had merged perfectly, leaving the Saint-level Flame Demon and Shui Rou’er dead without warning or resistance.
The threat from the Dragon King was palpable to all. Mu Tou raised his hand and unleashed his strongest skill, “Particle Overlap Strike.” Since mastering the Primordial Cosmos Technique, he could freely channel the world’s energy and no longer worried about the skill’s consumption. Yet against a foe who could teleport, he was uncertain if his attack would land.
“Ancient Martial Prohibited Sword: Golden Giant Slash!”
“Dark Arrow Star, the Ninety-Nine Unification Technique!”
“Great Dimension, Sever; Shatter Void, Seal!”
“Limitless Impact Cannon!” Even the Demon Emperor, usually at odds with Xiu Si, now unleashed his greatest technique.
Seeing everyone using their strongest moves, the Bald Giant roared, “To the death—Tenfold Gravity Technique!”
