113: The Mysterious Legend: The Latitude of Death
"The Arena of the Gods? What does that mean?" Mutou asked in surprise.
"I don't know," Lu Daoxuan shook his head. "But that place is extremely dangerous. The power of nature there is something even gods cannot resist. Aside from the shelters built by the Plane Trading System, the surrounding environment is incredibly harsh, with spatial rifts appearing constantly. Even an SS-level powerhouse could lose their life in those spacetime storms."
Everyone gasped upon hearing how dangerous it was. Lu Daoxuan added, "However, it also offers many benefits. Beyond being able to trade for longevity fruits and godhoods, one can find rare flowers, exotic fruits, and precious materials. They aren't exactly everywhere, but they aren't hard to find either. Hmm… how should I put it? It’s very similar to what the cultivation world describes as the Immortal Realm."
Gu Feng suddenly asked, "You know so much—have you been there?"
Lu Daoxuan nodded. "Yes. And I even brought something back for everyone." He reached into his spatial bracelet and pulled out a mechanical device resembling a walkie-talkie. "This is a very common type of communicator in high-level spacetime planes. It has one major benefit: it allows for cross-plane video calls. It’s similar to the Plane Trading System, except it cannot transmit physical items."
Zigui asked curiously, "What’s the use of this? Don't we already have the Plane Trading System? It has a communication function, too!"
Gu Feng, who hadn't put away his staff, rapped him on the head with it. "Fool. This thing is actually the most useful for you!"
Zigui rubbed his head and muttered, "Don't hit people on the head," echoing one of Hao Shuai's catchphrases. However, he quickly realized the point. "Right. The Plane Trading System only allows communication between those who possess a system, but this communicator isn't restricted by that. In other words, even if I leave my own plane, I don't have to worry about people back home thinking I’ve gone missing. I can manage affairs remotely."
Baldy nodded as well. "It truly is a useful item." He held significant power in the biochemical plane, and whenever he went on missions, he often struggled to handle emergencies. This device would make things much easier.
Lu Daoxuan explained, "This device requires a terminal to be installed in the home plane. I’ve prepared four of them; the setup is quite simple." He produced four computer-case-sized units and handed them out. "Each unit only needs a mid-grade energy crystal to operate continuously for two years. Each terminal comes with four handsets."
Mutou took one and said, "How many energy crystals does this cost? Brother Lu, you’re so thoughtful. There have been several times when I left my plane and people couldn't find me, thinking I’d disappeared. Now I won't have to worry about that anymore."
Zigui laughed, "Exactly! Last time I went to help Mutou (in the cultivation plane), I stayed for three days. The old clan leader couldn't find me and thought I’d been kidnapped. It was such a ridiculous misunderstanding!"
As they were talking, Mu Siyu walked over and said, "Brother Mutou, the ship’s engineer says we’ll reach the Lianyungang space station in half an hour. Aren't we..."
Mutou understood. They weren't supposed to be on the ship, and their identities would surely be exposed at the space station. Lu Daoxuan said, "Let’s leave it at that! Zigui, handle your own problems here." He turned to Mutou, "Find the specific latitude provided by the system as soon as possible. Let’s head there quickly."
Mutou nodded. "Don't worry. With Baidu and Google on Earth, I can probably find the exact location of this latitude in minutes!"
Lu Daoxuan nodded, and a ripple appeared in the air as he activated his system to return to his home plane. Baldy and Gu Feng exchanged nods with the others and also departed.
Zigui wrapped his arm around Mutou’s shoulder and said with a grin, "Brother Mutou, let’s make a deal. Could you wait one more day before using that 'Contract Summoning Order'?"
Mutou was stunned for a moment before he realized what he meant. "You want to woo a girl? Heh, my bed back home is big and comfortable, hahaha!"
Zigui chuckled, wearing an expression that every man would understand.
Mutou laughed, "I’ll give you one day!" Without waiting for a reply, he activated the plane system to return home. In a daze, he heard Zigui shout, "Hey... brother, one day is too tight! Give me a little more time!"
A hazy sensation washed over him, and Mutou arrived in the basement of his villa. After consulting with Xiao Dingdang, he had specifically set this as his arrival coordinate. No matter where he traveled from, he always returned to this basement. He felt it was safer that way.
However, the villa had been built recently and didn't have internet access yet. Mutou called Wuwu Number One to bring a laptop to the old villa, connected to the network, and entered the coordinate "North 29°32' - 29°34'" into Baidu.
Unfortunately, perhaps because Baidu wasn't sensitive enough to such coordinates, the results were chaotic. Mutou searched for over an hour but couldn't find a reasonable geographic location. Finally, he called Li Yun, asking him to see if he could find where that latitude was.
Li Yun’s efficiency was much higher than Baidu’s. Within ten minutes, he called back, asking in surprise, "Master, why are you asking about the location of this latitude?"
Mutou replied impatiently, "Why do you care? Did you find the specific location or not?"
Li Yun stammered, "I asked a geology professor at the university. He said that North 29°32'-29°34' is a famous 'death latitude line.'"
"Oh!?" Mutou was shocked. "What is a 'death latitude line'?"
Li Yun explained, "I don't fully understand it myself. The professor said there are many mysterious legends about places located on this latitude. The most famous one is the Bermuda Triangle in the Atlantic Ocean."
*What!?* Mutou was even more astonished. He had read about the Bermuda Triangle on the internet hundreds of times. It was rumored to be the most dangerous area on the high seas, where hundreds of planes and ships had mysteriously vanished over the years, a mystery that remained unexplained to this day.
Li Yun asked, "Master, do you have some plan regarding this latitude?"
Mutou replied, "Just asking for a friend."
Li Yun said, "Oh," then added, "Master, I suddenly remembered that the item I intended to send you last time was salvaged near that 'death latitude line'."
*Oh!* This piqued Mutou’s interest. "Right! You mentioned that twice, but I still haven't seen the item!"
Li Yun said, "The item is being shipped from Hong Kong. I’ll bring it over for you to see right away."
Mutou agreed, remembering that Li Yun would likely go to the new villa to find him, so he hurried back.
Sure enough, when he arrived home, Li Yun had been waiting for a while. Fortunately, Qiao'er and Mu Siyu were home, so he wasn't left waiting outside.
"Where is it?" Mutou asked straight away.
Li Yun pulled a leather case from his feet and said, "This was salvaged by a scientific expedition team near Bermuda. Initial tests suggest it doesn't belong to any technology known on Earth. Because they wanted me to sponsor their research, they gave it to me." He opened the case and took out a golden scepter. It was about the length of a small forearm; it looked like gold, but felt incredibly light in his hand.
Mutou asked curiously, "What is this?"
Li Yun smiled without answering. He gripped both ends and gave it a slight twist, and the scepter extended into a one-meter-long spear shaft, with both ends being razor-sharp. Mutou looked closely and noticed strange runes on the handle. He couldn't help but wonder, "This... it looks so similar to the Spear of Osiris from the movie *The Mummy*. Tell me, Li Yun, you weren't scammed by those researchers, were you?"
Li Yun was left speechless and quickly said, "Master, what are you saying? They wanted me to sponsor their research; how would they dare lie to me? Besides, I’ve had scientists verify it. The material is not any known element on Earth. They suspect it’s extraterrestrial technology!"
Hearing this, Mutou became deeply interested. He reached out to take the scepter and examined the runes carefully. They were very peculiar, winding and strange—definitely not any Earthly script, nor were they any cultivation runes he recognized. However, a faint, strange energy emanated from them. Mutou realized that the latitude for the system’s task was likely the mysterious Bermuda Triangle. Thinking of those magical and terrifying legends, Mutou couldn't help but shake his head and smile bitterly. "Will that research team be going back there? What kind of research are they doing?"
Li Yun replied, "I don't know if they'll go back. I only know they are trying to find the lost continent of Atlantis. According to them, there was indeed such an island in the Atlantic in ancient times, which disappeared for unknown reasons. They also believe the biblical flood legend refers to the sinking of Atlantis."
Mutou smiled slightly. "That’s interesting. The Bermuda Triangle. It’s a pity I know nothing about its geographic location. By the way, can you arrange for me to go there?"
Li Yun asked, "Master, what do you need to do there?"
Mutou said, "You don't need to ask. Just contact the research team and see if they plan to go back!"
Li Yun’s eyes rolled as he said, "Master, to go to the Bermuda Triangle, we don't need to go with that research team. I have a decommissioned cruiser."
Mutou was shocked. He looked at Li Yun and asked, "What? How do you have that?"
Li Yun laughed. "It’s not technically mine alone. Gu Yue and I pooled our connections to buy it. It’s equipped with advanced weapon systems and navigation. We originally intended to salvage treasure from shipwrecks, but we haven't used it since we got it. If you want to go to the Bermuda Triangle, I’d be happy to let it get some use!"
Mutou smiled, immediately understanding his scheme. "You said there are many shipwrecks in the Bermuda Triangle. Are you planning to salvage treasure while you're at it?"
Li Yun chuckled, "We wouldn't dare go to such a dangerous area on our own, but with a god-like master like you sitting on board, I’m not afraid of anything!"
