Chapter 110: The Truth Behind the Undead (Part One)
"We truly have seen something remarkable!" Jiang Liuying and her group, having received Guo Lang’s message immediately, did not hesitate to use a teleportation gate in full view of everyone to bring Kelly and the others back. Ye Zhiqiu’s team, having also possessed a marked location, was rescued by a gate opened by Guo Lang as well. Once everyone had returned, Jiang Liuying immediately began to complain about the difficulty of the mission.
Xielin nodded in agreement. "Truly impressive. To think one could play it like that—what is that guy’s background? He played it so smoothly. Even though the Undead racial traits are indeed overpowered, to utilize them to this extent? This person is no simple character."
Guo Lang nodded. "Indeed, not simple at all..." Truth be told, he hadn't expected it to be this thorny. Who was this guy? This could no longer be described merely by racial traits; this individual was truly extraordinary. Guo Lang pondered the top-ranked necromancers from his previous life, trying to find a corresponding figure, but it was difficult to pin down—after all, he hadn't even caught a glimpse of the person's face!
"By the way, where is our little princess?" Jiang Liuying asked, stars in her eyes. "I even brought a maid outfit when I passed by this time. Alice is so cute that she would look super attractive in it—a loli maid! Just thinking about it is so exciting..."
The group was speechless at this sudden, bizarre shift in topic. Her airheaded personality was already infamous. Guo Lang covered his forehead and said, "They are slower. I set up a teleportation point at the main base, so I was able to teleport back, but Alice and the others have to return through conventional means. I notified them ten minutes before the northern base was set to launch; at their speed, they should have been able to escape to twice that distance in ten minutes!" He paused, then added, "Also, stow away those ridiculous two-dimensional fantasies of yours. Alice will not wear those bizarre things!"
"What’s bizarre about them, you loser..." Jiang Liuying, dressed in ancient purple robes, immediately perked up and began to chatter incessantly with her hands on her hips.
Guo Lang’s face darkened. Damn it, knowing her personality, why did he even bother to engage her? Wasn't he just asking for trouble? But since she had already initiated her "cannon-fire" mode, Guo Lang couldn't escape even if he wanted to.
Ding-ding... Just as the group felt helpless, the communicator in Guo Lang’s pocket suddenly rang. Guo Lang’s eyes lit up, and he quickly silenced Jiang Liuying’s verbal assault with a wave of his hand. He pulled out the device with a serious expression. "Yes, Wick? Where are you all?"
"Leader..." The person on the other end was panting heavily, clearly physically exhausted. "I am twenty kilometers outside the base!"
*Alice is the same way,* Guo Lang thought with a bitter smile. *She doesn't know how to show consideration for an old man. Even with the missile launch delay and the initial prep time, there should have been about twenty minutes—running that distance within such a short time is still too much for Wick. Couldn't Alice have helped him out?*
"Where is Alice? Put her on..." Guo Lang decided to offer a little guidance. The issue of respecting one's elders needed to be addressed early!
"That is exactly what I am calling about, Leader!"
"What’s wrong?" Guo Lang’s heart sank.
"Alice did not come out with me!"
"What!!!"
-----------------------------------------------------
Twenty minutes ago:
In the control room, Pabson—or rather, the Skinner—walked into a corner and tapped the floor. The metal floor, originally crafted by Lu Jin, suddenly cracked visibly to the naked eye. Something resembling a tree sprout burst from the ground and began to spread rapidly. Unlike the Elven Tree of Life, the roots of this tree were fleshy and looked hideous and terrifying.
"Time to hurry..." Suddenly, her body stiffened because she heard the control room door open. It was a heavy metal blast door; logically, it shouldn't have opened without the passcode. She remembered killing everyone earlier, and no one had managed to trigger the alarm.
"Oh, little sister?" The Skinner smiled upon seeing the figure. "It’s you. How did you get in?"
"I know a few ways to pick a lock." Alice stared at her opponent coldly, then glanced at the scene around her and frowned. She was still too late. After receiving Guo Lang’s message, she had immediately told old Wick to leave while she charged into the base. As for the blast door, it wasn't much of an issue for her; an assassin was naturally skilled at unlocking any mechanism, whether technological or magical.
"As I thought... I felt something was wrong with you from the start," Alice said coldly.
"Oh?" The opponent looked at her with interest. "How so?"
"I didn't notice it at first. The character you played was too perfect—from your walking posture and breathing to your heartbeat, you were just like an ordinary fifty-year-old man, including the aura and demeanor that matched his position. Even though it was ninety-nine percent accurate, there was always a slight dissonance."
"What dissonance?" the opponent asked with a laugh.
"Your eyes..." Alice gestured, blocking out parts of her own vision. "Father told me a few days ago that if you feel something is off about a person, you can block out other parts and focus on just one section; perhaps you will find the answer. I forgot it at the time, but now that I recall, Father was right." She stared coldly at the opponent’s pupils. "These eyes of yours do not match that fifty-year-old face at all!"
"Oh, that’s a good method." The opponent clapped in admiration. "Too bad, child, you didn't think of your father’s teachings right away. By the way, who is your father? To be able to raise such a terrifying brat..."
Hearing this, Alice flipped her dagger, the purple light in her eyes looking dim yet mesmerizing. The tulip-like pattern on her eyes appeared incredibly elegant, yet possessed an abnormal, cold detachment. She bared her teeth in a smile. "It’s fine. I’ll take you back, and you can see what my father is like for yourself."
"Capture me?" The opponent pointed at the control room screen. "Think carefully. The missiles will be here in a few minutes. Are you sure you want to mess around like this?"
"It’s fine..." Alice tilted her head. "Since you can still stand here and argue with me, it means you have a faster escape route. For example..." Alice pointed at the fleshy roots that had already covered half the control room behind the opponent. "Is that thing for digging tunnels?"
"What a terrifying little brat. You don't have the cuteness that someone your age should have... Tell me, is it good to be so precocious?"
"Say whatever you want."
"Before you came in, didn't you think about what would happen if I didn't have an escape route prepared, or if I were just cannon fodder?" the opponent asked curiously.
"That doesn't matter," Alice leaned forward slightly. "Because I don't think you will be able to delay me for very long!"
"Wow..." The opponent’s expression also turned cold. "What a confident little brat!"
