Chapter One Hundred and Twelve: Under Interrogation
Chu Dong was tied up like a dumpling by Tan Xue, crookedly curled up at the foot of the bed. Fortunately, she knew his body hadn't fully recovered yet, so the bindings weren't too tight.
Chu Dong felt wronged. He had promised himself not to get angry, but his mood flipped faster than turning a page. The last time he touched Luo Feiyu, he thought the feel was quite good; when touching himself, it was different and he was very curious. And Tan Xue—why wouldn't she tell him anything? Why did she have to tie him up?
Tan Xue was delicate and weak; turning Chu Dong over and tying him up was no easy task. Even with his full cooperation, she was exhausted.
After Chu Dong was bound, he fell silent, which made Tan Xue feel unusually bored. She picked up a book to read but eventually, without noticing, fell asleep leaning on him.
Little Yuer had to go to school early in the morning. She woke up early, waiting for her sister to buy breakfast and call her, then take her to school. But by half past seven, there was still no sign of movement, so she went to her sister’s bedroom door.
The door was only slightly closed, as she had carelessly pulled it last night when she left. She quietly pushed it open and covered her eyes with one hand, afraid of seeing something she shouldn’t. “Sister, are you up yet?”
“Ah, what time is it?” Tan Xue climbed off the snoring Chu Dong, rubbing her sleepy eyes with the back of her hand and yawning.
Carefully moving her hand away, Little Yuer saw nothing inappropriate and became bold. “Sister, seriously? Is this how you take care of your brother-in-law? I’m telling Mom you’re abusing him and not giving me any food.”
“Don’t talk nonsense.” Tan Xue forgot this wasn’t her own home, and with the nanny and butler around concerning Little Yuer’s welfare, she had to take charge here. She quickly got up, found her small purse, pulled out some money, and stuffed it into her sister’s hand, pushing her out. “Don’t say such things, got it? If you dare, I won’t give you money again.” Her methods combined coaxing with threats—Tan Xue was quite resourceful.
Under the same roof, since her sister was her ATM, Little Yuer had no choice but to comply and took a taxi to school. Just as the car turned the corner and disappeared, a police car stopped at the villa’s gate.
“Isn’t it a bit too early to come here?” Luo Feiyu frowned, clearly a little annoyed that Gao Jun insisted on coming so early.
“We’re here on official business. Does that depend on his schedule? To be honest, you should have come yesterday when you went to the precinct,” Gao Jun said, uncomfortable with Luo Feiyu’s mood, so he vented his frustration on Chu Dong.
“That’s arresting someone, not asking for their help in an investigation. What evidence do you have that he’s involved in a crime? What crime has he committed?” Luo Feiyu was even more displeased. If you have the courage, face him openly and fairly. Don’t nurse grudges over being ambushed once. What she despised most was abusing one’s position to oppress others.
“How can we have evidence without investigation? All evidence comes from investigation.” Gao Jun opened the car door after speaking, fearing Luo Feiyu might get more upset.
“When we go in, don’t speak if you can help it. Otherwise, don’t blame me for being rude.” Luo Feiyu was unusually stern, her face tight.
“Got it.” Gao Jun forced a stern expression but felt bitter inside. He had worked hard for years, everyone knew he liked this girl, but she never gave him a chance. Now this mysterious newcomer had met her only a few times, and she cared for him so much—who could bear it?
Pressing the doorbell, Gao Jun glanced around. Surrounded by green trees, the place had that deep courtyard feel. He felt even more uneasy. “Could it be because he’s rich?”
“Who is it?” Little Yuer had just left, and Tan Xue, having just finished washing up, heard the doorbell. Apart from family and Qiangzi and a few others, no one knew this place. Who would come so early?
Dressed in casual clothes with sleeves rolled up, her hair still damp on her shoulders, Tan Xue looked exceptionally graceful.
Seeing two police officers at the door, one being the female officer she had met in Dandong, she frowned. “What’s this? You’re quite capable, coming all the way here?”
“We’ve met before, so I won’t say much. There’s a case I need Chu Dong’s assistance with,” Luo Feiyu said, unfazed, ignoring the overwhelming scent of jealousy on Tan Xue.
“Call Chu Dong out. We don’t have time to waste here.” Gao Jun’s expression was grim. He was annoyed that Luo Feiyu was still pursuing despite Chu Dong having a wife, but he was even more upset that Chu Dong had such a beautiful wife at home yet still gallivanted around.
“Oh, and here comes the bodyguard?” Tan Xue crossed her arms, appraising Gao Jun with a charming smile. “Hmm, he’s in good health, just a bit ugly. No wonder he came looking for our Chu Dong.”
Gao Jun was frustrated. One Luo Feiyu was already enough to give him headaches; now this sharp-tongued beauty showed up, and he couldn’t retort—had to keep up appearances.
“We want to see Chu Dong. Call him out,” he said coldly, not wanting to get entangled with Tan Xue any longer.
“I believe the female officer just said she needed my husband’s cooperation. May I understand that as a request for help rather than an arrest?” Tan Xue maintained her elegant demeanor, sweeping her hair back flirtatiously.
Gao Jun was dumbfounded, speechless, only able to cast a somewhat reproachful look at Luo Feiyu.
“It is every citizen’s duty to cooperate with police inquiries and provide valuable information. Please let us see Mr. Chu Dong. We won’t cause trouble,” Luo Feiyu said calmly, ignoring Gao Jun’s gaze, speaking to Tan Xue.
“Duty comes with rights. Do we have the right to remain silent? What do you say, Officer?” Tan Xue was never one to be persuaded by others or play word games. “But we are law-abiding citizens and willing to assist the people’s protectors. Come in, I’ll call him. But remember, my husband is ill. If his condition worsens because of you, you’ll be fully responsible.” Leading the way, Tan Xue took Luo Feiyu and Gao Jun into the villa.
They sat in the hall while Tan Xue went upstairs to fetch Chu Dong, only to find he was no longer tied to the bed. Alarmed, she searched until she found him in the kitchen.
Chu Dong was holding an open can of beef and digging in with a small silver spoon.
Relieved, Tan Xue grabbed his ear. “Your temptress is here. When you see her, no leering. Got it?”
“Really?” Chu Dong almost jumped up, wondering if he could ask Luo Feiyu about last night’s matter.
“What are you so excited about? Calm down! Did you hear what I said?” Tan Xue was annoyed. How could he look at that temptress with stars in his eyes? She was just as good!
Chu Dong nodded eagerly, finally swallowing the beef. “Got it, got it all.”
“Got what?” Tan Xue asked.
“Not to ask her what’s inside...” Before he could finish, Tan Xue kicked him out of the kitchen.
“He’s here. Ask whatever you want. Like I said, if his condition worsens, you’re responsible.” Tan Xue pulled Chu Dong to sit, not forgetting to warn Gao Jun and Luo Feiyu.
“Chu Dong, we’re old acquaintances, no need for introductions, right?” Gao Jun noticed Chu Dong was indifferent, only staring at Luo Feiyu, which made him even more irritated. “I hope you’ll cooperate and come back to the station to explain your recent situation in detail.”
“Cooperate, I’m cooperating.” Chu Dong’s gaze toward Luo Feiyu was not lustful but oddly misplaced. As he nodded, he suddenly recalled last night and added, “Don’t get angry!”
Tan Xue immediately pinched him. This guy was not only forgetful but a bit slow-witted.
“Mrs. Chu, I’d like to ask Chu Dong some questions privately. I hope you’ll allow us to take detailed statements at the station,” Gao Jun said, seeing Tan Xue pinch Chu Dong and suspecting she wanted to prevent him from speaking, so he furrowed his brow and considered taking Chu Dong away.
“It’s no use telling me. Will he cooperate? If he wants to go, how can I stop him?” Tan Xue turned to Chu Dong. “They want to take you for questioning. Will you go?”
Chu Dong was clueless about the matter or what questions awaited him, looking confused as he glanced at Luo Feiyu.
“They just want to ask about your recent days. It’ll be quick,” Luo Feiyu explained as if answering his unspoken question.
“Alright, I’ll go.” Chu Dong had just spoken when he suddenly howled and jumped up, clutching his thigh and grimacing as he danced on the spot.
Tan Xue stood up angrily. “If you go, don’t come back.” Wearing slippers, she stomped upstairs.
Gao Jun led the way, Luo Feiyu followed Chu Dong, and they left the villa. Chu Dong glanced back once and saw Tan Xue at the second-floor window shaking her fist at him, making him shrink his neck in fear.
Gao Jun got into the car, started the engine, and turned on the siren as he sped to the precinct. Luo Feiyu frowned and turned off the siren. “What are you doing? Showing off or just being too arrogant?”
Gao Jun gritted his teeth, nearly going mad. He just wanted to vent by turning on the siren, but even that wasn’t allowed. He drove with a dark face until they reached the station. Opening the door, he snapped at Chu Dong, “Get out.”
Chu Dong didn’t know what was going on. He had a protective fear for Tan Xue, an inexplicable attraction to Luo Feiyu, and an indescribable dislike for Gao Jun.
Opening the car door, Chu Dong didn’t get out immediately. Instead, he pulled out a cigarette, lit it, inhaled, and blew out a plume of blue smoke. “Could you be a little more polite? You invited me here, but do you treat guests like this?”
“Invited you?” Gao Jun was so angry he trembled. “I’m giving you face by not handcuffing you! Get out now. Did you hear me? Get out!”
