Chapter 28: Jordan, Left with Nothing but His Underwear!
"Yes, that is exactly what I mean. I hope to leave you with at least your underwear!" Lin Tian never held back when it came to Jordan. Even during practice matchups, he was never afraid of him, let alone in a field where he excelled.
"I'm in! I'll make you lose so much you'll have to ride a bike to the arena! Deal the cards!" Jordan shouted, crossing his arms and fuming.
Kerr was quick-witted and immediately began dealing the cards at a rapid pace.
One card, two cards, three cards...
Slowly, Jordan’s eyes widened, and the more he looked, the more unbelievable it seemed.
Lin Tian had started with a two in the hole, but he kept picking up more twos, eventually landing a very strong hand: four of a kind.
As for Jordan, although his first two cards were high-value face cards, they didn't form a coherent hand.
He lost this round without a shred of suspense.
"Another round?" Lin Tian, having pocketed 100,000, looked at Jordan. He was completely relaxed; it was just 100,000, and he didn't give it a second thought.
This indifference and ease made the corners of Jordan’s mouth twitch.
He saw it as a provocation!
A blatant provocation!
"Continue! Of course, continue! Deal!"
Kerr, sitting nearby, hurriedly picked up the cards and dealt to everyone.
After the first round, Lin Tian had the highest card with an Ace, so it was his turn to act.
"What's there to think about? Let's go all-in." Lin Tian shrugged. Then, he suddenly picked up his hole card and revealed it—another Ace. "I'll let you have this one. Two Aces—a chance for you to run away, Michael! There's no shame in being afraid!"
"Afraid? You think I'm afraid?" Jordan cursed. He flipped over his hole card. Combined with the cards on the table, he had a three and a four, both hearts. "I've got a shot at a flush, a shot at a straight! I'm not afraid of you! I'm in!"
He was tilted. He was absolutely tilted.
At this point, Rodman, Pippen, and Kerr wisely folded and threw their cards aside, signaling they were out. As foolish as they might be, even they could see that this game had devolved into a purely personal grudge, with nothing else at play.
Moreover, this kind of 100,000-dollar all-in style...
Rodman didn't have much in savings; he only made about 3 million dollars a year, and taking home a million or so after taxes was already good. This single hand was his entire month's salary!
As for Pippen and Kerr, the two of them combined only made about 3 million a year. They were "paupers" compared to the others and had no intention of going crazy along with Lin and Jordan.
By the end of the hand, Lin Tian won with a pair of Aces, successfully taking another 100,000 dollars from Jordan.
From then on, it seemed the Goddess of Luck had favored Lin Tian. His cards were simply better, and he consistently had the upper hand over Jordan!
In this type of game that relied purely on luck, he actually beat Jordan ten times in a row!
In between, Jordan changed dealers several times, from Kerr to Pippen, then to Rodman, and finally, he even dragged over the assistant coach, Cleamons, to deal.
But without exception, Jordan lost every single time!
In less than 20 minutes, he had lost over a million dollars!
Even for Jordan, whose income from Nike and other sponsors was so staggering that it was almost absurd, the constant losing started to make sweat bead on his forehead.
If Lin Tian hadn't touched the edges of the cards once from start to finish, Jordan would have truly suspected the guy was cheating!
How could anyone be this unlucky?
"Maybe we should call it a day." Lin Tian could tell that Jordan’s eyes were already bloodshot from the losses. If he were to say, "Don't leave, let's go another 300 rounds, I'll strip you down to your underwear," Jordan would likely snap out of it and quit.
But if he persuaded him to stop while dropping a few more barbs... Jordan might even end up betting his wife against Lin Tian!
"Michael, if you stop now, no one will call you a coward. After all, you're just having a run of bad luck. We'll do this next time," Lin Tian said with "utmost concern," offering a bit of comfort.
"Afraid? Me? Afraid? Continue! We must continue!" Jordan paused, then suddenly thought of something. "But we aren't playing like this anymore! It’s too boring. Let's do this properly—no more all-ins! I want to test your skill."
"Test my skill?" Lin Tian looked at Jordan. In his eyes, Jordan’s face was already plastered with four words: "Walking Piggy Bank."
"That's right, test your skill! I want to prove that you've just been lucky! Winning ten games in a row is luck, and taking that Spanish girl away last night was also luck!"
Watching Jordan’s aggressive demeanor, Lin Tian shrugged. "Are there any limits on the stakes?"
Lin Tian’s question sounded like a retreat to Jordan! The kid was scared! Jordan chuckled. "No limits! As long as you dare, I'll match 10 million! Come on, Lin! Let's fight to the death!"
By now, Pippen had taken over as dealer. The first round of cards came out, and Lin Tian received a King. It was his turn to act first. "50 cents."
"How much did you say?" Jordan thought he must have misheard.
"50 cents. Is there a problem? You said no limits on the stakes." Lin Tian shrugged, continuing to provoke him.
Jordan looked at his cards and cursed. "I'm in, and I'm raising 10,000! Keep dealing!"
After another round of dealing, Lin Tian received another King. He looked at Jordan and continued his provocative act. "On top of that 10,000, I'll add 50 cents!"
Lin Tian’s goal now wasn't just about winning money!
In just this short while, Jordan had dropped a massive amount of experience points! This was far more than what he gained during practice matches!
This was a golden opportunity, and Lin was ready to seize it and squeeze Jordan dry!
The more tilted Jordan became, the more experience points he would cough up!
So, Lin Tian’s provocations became increasingly reckless, stabbing right at Jordan’s heart, one blow after another.
Unfortunately, so far, other than experience points, Jordan hadn't dropped anything else of value.
It seemed he needed to poke even harder!
"Call or fold, make up your mind! Why do you keep raising by only 50 cents? Do you even know how to play cards?" Jordan snapped irritably. "Can you play properly for once?"
"Is there a rule in poker stating how much a raise must be?" Lin Tian looked at Jordan, his arrogant expression truly punchable.
"There are no rules!" Jordan gritted his teeth, the words practically leaping out of his mouth.
"That's good. I'm raising 50 cents. Do you not have the guts to call?" Lin Tian lifted his eyelids and leaned back in his chair. "If you're really scared, you can fold."
"Fold? Hmph, if I don't win your underwear today, I'm not a Jordan!" Jordan roared in anger.
