“This is a news report. Black Gillas and Red Gillas, known collectively as the Twin Monsters, have once again appeared on Black Tide Island and launched a terrifying attack.”

“The massive floods unleashed by the Twin Monsters have now submerged an enormous area. The United Earth Defense Force has been mobilized. Next, we bring you footage of the Defense Force’s valiant battle!”

The television screen switched to several flamboyantly designed fighter jets.

They circled through the sky, launching missiles at the Twin Monsters.

The two monsters struggled irritably with the fighters, apparently being held at bay.

One minute later.

With the last fighter shot from the sky and sent crashing down by Black Gillas—or, more precisely, Dark Gillas—this particular Defense Force was officially wiped out.

The screen dissolved into static, no longer broadcasting such dispiriting footage.

Change the channel.

“A gigantic monster measuring up to sixty meters has appeared in the Mongolian region. According to informed sources, this creature is Golza, the Earth-Shaking Monster of prophecy. According to the prophecy, only the great Kyrie Lord can save the Earth and humanity. As long as everyone—”

Change the channel again.

“Recently, a space station detected a white sphere near the Moon. Drawn in by Earth’s gravity, the sphere is currently falling toward the planet. Preliminary estimates suggest that it poses no threat. It has been given the name Yefil. Senior officials of the United Earth Organization are currently discussing whether it should be destroyed.”

Change it again.

“Good news! The Defense Force is now recruiting! Those accepted will receive permanent employment for life, along with generous benefits. For details, please call: 188—”

Click.

Lin Yu, sitting before the television, switched it off with a look of utter exasperation.

Then he glanced with the same expression at the large red invitation in his hand, its characters stamped in shimmering gold.

When he opened it, the following words leaped into view:

“Mr. Lin Yu, having received the approval of the United Earth Organization, you are hereby appointed Captain of the Earth Defense Force HUD Unit, effective immediately. Please report for duty at the Tokyo Branch!”

“What the hell kind of world is this?”

“We’ve got the Twin Monsters from Leo, Golza, Melba, and the Kyrie Lords from Tiga—and now even that glitched monstrosity, Yefil!”

“Hey, isn’t this going a bit beyond the original script? Are these two things even opponents that the Ultramen of the present era can handle?!”

“Oh… There’s no Tiga here, nor Leo, Seven, or Max. In that case, never mind.”

Lin Yu scratched his head, feeling thoroughly disoriented.

It was obvious that he was a transmigrator.

He had arrived in this chaotic, all-in-one universe.

According to the records available here, monsters of every kind had begun appearing on Earth an unknown number of years ago.

Some were native to the planet. Others had come from outer space.

The monsters were a complete hodgepodge, with no clear correspondence to any Ultraman television series Lin Yu remembered.

But there had never been an Ultraman.

That was right—there was not a single record of one.

Not the Ultraman Brothers of the Showa era, not the Big Three or the Four Warriors of the Heisei era, nor any of the younger heroes of the New Generation.

None of them existed.

It was as though this were a universe abandoned by the light.

All that existed here were endless hordes of monsters and aliens—creatures that should have appeared in other Ultraman series, only to be beaten to a pulp.

And the Earth Defense Forces, repeatedly slaughtered in惨烈 defeats.

Driven to desperation, even the people of Earth—normally so skilled at turning on one another—had united and established a genuine United Earth Organization with real authority, all in the name of survival.

Upon arriving in this cursed place, Lin Yu’s first thought had naturally been to check whether he was the human host of some Ultraman.

He was not.

So what was he supposed to do next? Obviously, he should make himself scarce.

Let the Ultraman handle the monsters!

But after waiting for who knew how long, no Ultraman ever appeared. Instead, an even larger batch of monsters and aliens arrived, each more outrageous than the last.

And then came an appointment letter making him captain.

He swore that the only reason he had applied for this thing was because he had been fired up when he first arrived—and because an old lady had said applicants would receive three free eggs!

No, wait. He had actually been accepted?

Was it because the previous Defense Force had been wiped out so quickly that they had become desperate enough to take anyone?

Speaking of mass annihilation, which numbered Defense Force was this? As far as Lin Yu knew, there had already been ten.

“What a godforsaken world.”

“Fortunately, I’m a godforsaken player.”

As Lin Yu sighed, his reflection appeared on the television screen, his phone already in hand.

The phone lit up. He tapped open an app called Monster Raising Game.

At the forefront was a monster with a pale yellow body, black markings, a powerful tail, and eyes shaped like two crescent-moon antennae.

The aquatic ruler, Eleking!

A monster that had first appeared in the Seven television series, Eleking possessed powerful electrical currents and a strong tail capable of binding and lashing its enemies.

Beneath Eleking were several lines of information:

“Current Growth Level: 99%!”

“Current Location: Seven TV Series!”

“View Log!”

Besides Eleking, there was also the infamous Space Dinosaur Zetton and the even more terrifying Super-Fusion Monster Five King.

Their growth levels, however, were lower: sixty percent for one, thirty percent for the other.

This was a game Lin Yu had discovered by accident. Its entire purpose was to raise monsters.

The monsters provided at the beginning and unlocked later—Eleking, Zetton, and Five King—were all the creatures Lin Yu possessed in Monster Raising Game.

That was right. They were his pets.

Monster Raising Game was just like the animal-raising games Lin Yu had played in his former life.

The only difference was that those games involved raising cats and dogs, while this one involved raising ferocious giant monsters!

All Lin Yu had to do was cultivate them as far as possible, until they reached “one hundred percent.”

The method was simple enough. Every day, the game provided feed through a sign-in reward. Once the monsters ate it, their growth levels increased.

However, progress was slow, and feed alone was not enough. Their growth would eventually bottleneck, and each monster required specific resources to continue developing.

For example, Eleking needed to absorb high-voltage electricity. Zetton required vast quantities of energy—emotional energy or biological energy would both work. Five King, meanwhile, had the appearance but lacked the ingredients. To bring its growth level to the maximum, Lin Yu had to capture Golza, Melba, Super Gobu, Rachicas, and Eye Q.

If he really wanted to advance quickly, the best option was to send the monsters out for “training.”

That was what the television series listed beneath Eleking referred to.

Whenever Lin Yu obtained a monster, the game would randomly unlock an Ultraman television series. His monster could then enter that series, and what it managed to obtain there depended entirely on its own abilities.

At present, the three monsters were each in a different series.

Eleking was in Seven.

Zetton was in Trigger.

Five King was in Orb.

It was still a perfectly valid home-swapping strategy.

“I wonder what will happen when their growth reaches one hundred percent. Perhaps I’ll really be able to summon the monsters into the real world. Eleking is almost there, too.”

Lin Yu pondered the thought, anticipation flickering in his eyes.

In a world like this, who would not want a little power of their own?

“Fwoosh!”

“Hm?”

It sounded as though something had torn across the sky.

Lin Yu looked up in confusion.

Reflected in his pupils was—

a gigantic blue “meteor”!

It was hurtling straight toward Tokyo, where he lived.

Boom!

A skyscraper was smashed to pieces on impact.

A colossal crater remained, along with smoke filling the sky.

“Geou!”

A roar emerged from the smoke—dull yet unnaturally shrill, the kind of sound that made one’s scalp crawl.

A pair of beastly eyes, filled with nothing but savagery, appeared.

Close behind them came the fifty-meter-tall body of a green beast, tearing through the smoke and dust.

It revealed itself in full.

Countless terrified screams erupted throughout the city at that very moment.

Lin Yu’s body stiffened.

The giant monster was no more than a few kilometers away. The crushing disparity in their levels of life was utterly different from the pressure of watching a video, and it left his face tingling with numbness.

Even so, he murmured to himself, as though overcome by the sight.

“Space Ferocious Monster—Bemular!”
