Chapter Twenty-One: The First Kill

The werewolf esper was startled when he saw Xia Zheng’s face. He hadn’t expected the one lurking nearby to be such a young man; he’d assumed it would be a wily, composed adult, perhaps older than himself.

"Kid, you’re pretty good at hiding, aren’t you?" The werewolf didn’t attack immediately but watched him warily. He sensed no energy fluctuations from Xia Zheng, which meant he wasn’t likely a superhuman type. Was he an enhancement or elemental type? If it was the latter, things could get troublesome.

Xia Zheng wasted no words. "Tell me everything you know. If you cooperate, I’ll let you go."

"What? You’re even more arrogant than I am, you little brat!" The werewolf’s anger flared. He lunged forward, swinging a claw at Xia Zheng’s head.

Xia Zheng didn’t use his psychic power but relied on physical technique, dodging deftly and countering with a swift kick to the werewolf’s head.

The werewolf staggered, rubbing his head, pondering that this young man’s strength seemed to be only at the D-level. His physical skills were impressive, but he hadn’t displayed any powers.

He attacked again, this time with greater speed, surpassing the capabilities of a D-level esper.

Swish!

Xia Zheng’s movements became unpredictable, still managing to evade. The werewolf’s heart skipped a beat; he still sensed no energy from his opponent.

"What on earth is he..." The werewolf’s suspicions deepened. He realized the youth before him wasn’t someone he could handle with simple tactics.

After a roar, he went berserk. His fur bristled, speed and strength multiplying, reaching the peak of C-level power. He resolved to finish the fight quickly; his injuries were becoming unbearable and he needed to get to a hospital. Besides, this place would eventually be discovered—he had to destroy all evidence.

In this berserk state, the werewolf exerted tremendous pressure on Xia Zheng. Xia Zheng pushed his physical abilities to the limit but was still sent flying several times. Fortunately, his constitution was strong, leaving him with only minor injuries.

"Hahaha... So you’re just an ordinary human without powers. You nearly scared me! It’s a pity, your skills are good, but don’t think a regular person can defeat an esper. That’s just a dream!" With that, the werewolf spun rapidly, appearing behind Xia Zheng and swiping at his neck with a powerful claw. If it landed, it would surely decapitate him.

Bang!

In the next moment, the werewolf was shocked to find his attack blocked by an energy shield, unable to reach Xia Zheng’s neck.

"What... What’s going on? Aren’t you..." The werewolf continued his assault but found it useless, stepping back in surprise.

Xia Zheng slowly raised his eyes and said, "Switching modes now—an esper, right? Come!"

Suddenly, his speed surged. He closed the distance in a flash, landing two punches and a kick that sent the werewolf flying.

"Cough... cough..." The werewolf finally coughed up blood after rising. Unwilling to accept defeat, he howled at the sky, pulling a vial of blue liquid from his previously intact trouser pocket and drinking it.

"Kid, I admit I underestimated you, but today you’re dead. That was a genetic enhancement serum I just took—it boosts all my attributes by fifty percent. It’s extremely expensive. Consider yourself honored." The werewolf’s form changed again. His previously blood-red fur turned deep blue, his wolf head grew fiercer, and his muscles became even more pronounced.

Xia Zheng had nothing like this at his disposal. Seeing the werewolf resort to drugs, he decided not to hold back any longer.

"Go!" He flicked three throwing knives and three spikes from each hand, all suspended midair by his psychic power, trembling as if charging up.

The werewolf, now strengthened and confident, charged forward, unafraid of these small weapons, relying on his hardened fur.

"Fly!" The knives and spikes, fully charged, shot out at incredible speed.

Clang, clang, clang!

They struck the werewolf’s berserk, enhanced body and bounced off. Indeed, his state was formidable, but with each impact, his speed, defense, and strength diminished significantly.

After he deflected three powerful knives, a fourth spike pierced his defenses and stabbed his shoulder. He howled in pain but continued his charge, gritting his teeth. The next moment, another spike pierced his abdomen, causing him agony, but he still reached out with his claw, trying to crush Xia Zheng.

The final spike pierced his throat, shooting straight through. The werewolf collaps
