Chapter Forty: I Think It's Better If You Stay Still
Unlike before, Shi Jiu and the others were now exhilarated after seeing how fierce Wei Liang was.
“It looks like this round is in the bag!”
Shen Bao’s gaze was vicious, and the looks from those around him made him deeply uncomfortable.
He wanted Wei Liang dead! Only then could he regain his dignity!
[Distortion]
Distortion: Causes the body to mutate, greatly enhancing strength, speed, and stamina for a period of time.
This was the skill of his life-bound card. Using it came with a price—he would become hideous. He almost never used this ability.
But now, forced into a corner, he had no choice but to resolve the battle in a state of berserk domination!
As he activated the ability, his whole body began to swell. Every muscle expanded, and his physique grew by half in an instant, making him look like a small giant.
Wei Liang paid no mind to Shen Bao’s transformation. “Shen Bao, I want to know, why are you so intent on making trouble for me?”
To be honest, he couldn’t understand why Shen Bao was so determined to oppress him.
Shen Bao was momentarily stunned. Why did he keep targeting Wei Liang?
He didn’t know either. He just found it infuriating that someone he’d always bullied and trampled on suddenly started having a better life.
“Why? There’s no reason! I just want to bully you! Because I’m stronger, and if I want to bully you, I will!”
Bloodshot veins began to show in Wei Liang’s eyes. Everyone has a temper; it’s just that when you lack power, you must endure.
But now!
Now, he had power!
The past flashed through his mind like a film reel.
His head had been stepped on! He’d been forced to eat leftovers! Made to do the dirtiest, hardest work!
All the memories of being bullied flickered through Wei Liang’s mind.
At that moment, a murderous aura seeped from deep within him.
“I’ll say it one last time—if you stop now, our grudges are settled.”
With his eyes closed, this was Wei Liang’s final calm. When he opened them again, it would be to decide Shen Bao’s fate.
He didn’t want to kill Shen Bao here. If he did, Zhuang Feng might become enraged and break his promise, trapping and slaughtering them all.
He didn’t want to implicate Shi Jiu or Lu Sheng, so he gave Shen Bao one last chance.
Shen Bao burst out laughing, mad with power from his mutation, oblivious to the chilling aura radiating from Wei Liang.
“Have you lost your mind? You want me to stop? I’ll beat you to death today!”
He stomped hard, the ground cracking like a spider web, and charged at Wei Liang.
A blade sliced through the air, coming down toward Wei Liang.
Shi Jiu and the others grew anxious—Shen Bao’s attack was upon him, so why wasn’t Wei Liang moving?
They were about to rush in to save him.
At that moment, Wei Liang moved.
Calmly, he swung his blade upward.
To the onlookers, it seemed like a standard block—and not a wise one at that. Shen Bao’s momentum was tremendous; a clever move would’ve been to retreat and evade.
But only Wei Liang knew—this was no block. This strike was meant to kill Shen Bao!
Bang!
Boom!
The two attacks collided. In that instant, a violent explosion erupted from their clash, and flames burst forth, igniting Shen Bao.
Shen Bao’s body cut through the air, the flames making him a blazing spectacle that drew every eye.
Midair, crimson blood spattered, dotting the earth with red.
“How… how is this possible?”
That was the sole thought in everyone’s mind.
Shen Bao finally crashed to the ground. He struggled for a moment, then lay still—it was unclear whether he was dead.
Zhuang Feng shouted, “Hurry! Save him!”
Several members of the Demon Wolf enclave rushed over, dousing Shen Bao with water to extinguish the flames.
Meanwhile, Zhuang Feng glared at Shi Jiu’s group with venomous intent—those who had harmed his people would not escape!
As for the duel agreement?
What agreement? Did anyone say that, after losing, they couldn’t retaliate?
This was the apocalypse—who cared about honor or promises?
But just as he was about to order his men to attack, someone appeared before him, a hand settling on his shoulder.
A force beyond resistance surged through his body, lifting him off the ground—only about a centimeter, but enough for him alone to feel his suspension.
Zhuang Feng trembled, paralyzed by fear. He could sense that this power could crush him with ease.
He was a second-tier fighter! Who was this man? How could he be so strong?
Lu Sheng had been quietly moving toward Zhuang Feng since the battle’s start.
He knew that, win or lose, they couldn’t hope to leave unharmed.
In the apocalypse, words meant little—what mattered was the strength of your fists.
When everyone’s attention was focused on the center of the battlefield, he closed the final distance and stood before Zhuang Feng.
He wanted to get out safely without revealing too much—this was the only way.
Lu Sheng’s eyes curved into crescents as he smiled at Zhuang Feng. “I think you should just stand here and watch us leave without doing anything. How does that sound?”
There was not a trace of killing intent or threat, yet Zhuang Feng couldn’t stop trembling.
“N-no problem…”
“That’s good.”
Lu Sheng quickly returned to the group, but his actions had already been noticed. Still, nobody knew what he’d really done—it just looked as if he’d gone over to chat with Zhuang Feng.
Shi Jiu was full of doubt. “Lu Sheng, why did you go over there? Why didn’t they do anything to you?”
At first, he’d been frustrated by Lu Sheng’s behavior, but the turn of events had surprised him—the others hadn’t harmed Lu Sheng at all.
Lu Sheng grinned. “It’s nothing. I just went over to trick them, told them we still had a large force in Sky Ox City, and didn’t want to escalate things into a war between two enclaves. He let me go and said we could leave.”
Shi Jiu was enlightened. “Is that so? Not bad. Let’s get out of here quickly, before the lie is exposed.”
“Yes, let’s go!”
None of the team members objected—they all agreed to a quick departure.
Though they suspected Lu Sheng was lying, and though they were all curious about Wei Liang’s powers, now was not the time for questions. Escaping safely was all that mattered.
“Captain, are we really just going to let them leave?”
The Demon Wolf enclave members were puzzled. From what they knew of Zhuang Feng, this wasn’t his style.
Zhuang Feng took a deep breath to steady his nerves. “Let them go. We agreed to a duel between the two—now that we’ve lost, that’s that. We can’t break our word.”
His subordinates looked at him doubtfully, thinking, So you’re a man of your word after all? Who knew!
But none dared say that aloud.
Meanwhile, Fei Liuhuo was already confronting Yan Dao.
Fei Liuhuo looked at the corpses strewn across the enclave, his mood foul.
“Yan Dao, you’ve chosen a narrow path.”
Yan Dao sneered, his features now twisted with demonic energy.
“My path is broad enough. It’s you who’s walking into a dead end!”
