Chapter Six: Did They Do It or Not?
After getting into the car, Han Mo said, “Boss, Zhao Guangxiong and Zhao Yiya went to see Old Master He at the villa because you want to break off the engagement with the Zhao family. He was very angry and demanded you go back and give him a reasonable explanation.”
“The father and daughter from the Zhao family really have no other recourse but to seek help from that old man of the He family. After all these years, their tactics are as unimproved as ever. They don’t realize that putting your fate in someone else’s hands is the most foolish thing one can do.”
“Boss, what should we do next?”
“Find out when C University’s vacation starts, and book her a ticket to Japan,” He Zheyu replied, closing his eyes to rest. After all, someone had rather overexerted themselves last night.
“Ah~” Han Mo was momentarily stunned, but then quickly said, “Alright, alright,” and didn’t disturb him further.
Han Mo understood He Zheyu’s intention—he had no intention of going back to the He family. As for whatever trouble the Zhao father and daughter might cause, the one most troubled would be Old Master He; it had nothing at all to do with He Zheyu.
Staying at home, Mo Qinghan was restless and ill at ease. She simply couldn’t settle down to review for her finals in that environment, so after gathering her things, she returned to school.
She had barely arrived at the school gate when she ran into He Yurou. The two of them gave each other a big hug.
“Did you just get back from the hospital? How’s your brother doing?”
Mo Qinghan answered, somewhat guiltily, “Yes. His condition is relatively stable.”
He Yurou’s face lit up with excitement. “Qinghan, I have something I absolutely have to share with you. Come on, hurry, I’ll tell you in the dorm.” She spoke as she half-dragged, half-ran with Mo Qinghan in tow.
By the time they reached the dorm, both were out of breath. Mo Qinghan took a sip of water to recover, then asked, “What is it? You look so excited.”
The others in their dorm had gone off to the self-study room or the library, so it was just the two of them.
“I’m in a relationship!”
“With whom?”
He Yurou deliberately teased, “Guess!”
Seeing the happiness on He Yurou’s face, Mo Qinghan immediately understood. “It’s Zhao Qingwu, isn’t it?”
He Yurou nodded vigorously. “Qinghan, did you know? I only recently found out that Qingwu’s sister is my uncle’s fiancée…”
The moment Mo Qinghan heard that Zhao Qingwu’s sister was He Zheyu’s fiancée, her mind buzzed and went blank. Whatever He Yurou said after that seemed to drift past her ears, as if she’d automatically blocked it out. So, he’s engaged, she thought. It makes sense—someone as outstanding as him would be expected to have a family arrangement.
He Yurou noticed Mo Qinghan staring off blankly and called her several times. “Qinghan, Qinghan, Qinghan.”
Mo Qinghan snapped back to reality and muttered, “Your family relationships are really complicated, a bit of a mess.”
“What are you talking about, Qinghan? Did you even listen to a word I just said?”
Mo Qinghan tried to explain, “How do you address Zhao Qingwu’s sister? Do you call her ‘aunt’ or ‘sister’? See? Your relationships are a bit tangled, aren’t they?”
Hearing this, He Yurou was immediately sidetracked and began trying to sort out the connections between her family and Zhao Qingwu’s.
Meanwhile, Mo Qinghan thought to herself: Zhao Qingwu is He Zheyu’s brother-in-law, and now he’s dating my friend. I must keep my distance from all of them in the future. She understood that, whatever the outcome, she couldn’t afford the consequences.
That night, lying in bed, Mo Qinghan tossed and turned restlessly. The tangled relationships she couldn’t unravel left her mind in turmoil. She picked up her phone, opened QQ, and tapped on the most familiar profile: Sanye.
“Are you in the country or abroad?”
It was quite a while before there was a reply, and Mo Qinghan assumed Sanye must have gone abroad. Just as she was about to give up, the profile lit up.
“I’m abroad, just finished work. Sorry to have kept you waiting.”
“I guessed you’d gone abroad.”
“So in sync! Do you have something you need to talk through?”
“That’s exactly it. I drank too much last night, and then…”
“You two…”
“I’m not sure. When I woke up, I checked the sheets—there was no blood, but my whole body aches.”
“Do you feel pain… there?”
Mo Qinghan, confused, replied, “Where do you mean?”
Sanye sent a few smirking emojis, and Mo Qinghan immediately understood, her face flushing scarlet.
“It doesn’t really hurt, but there are a few kiss marks on my chest. I blacked out from drinking, and when I asked him, he wouldn’t tell me anything.”
“Do you want something to happen between you two?” Sanye’s question left Mo Qinghan at a loss for words. After a long hesitation, she finally replied, “I don’t reject it, I suppose. He’s always very gentle with me when we kiss.”
“I have something urgent to deal with. Let’s talk next time!” Their conversation ended with Sanye’s message.
Having confided some of the worries that weighed on her heart, and with the night growing late, Mo Qinghan soon drifted off to sleep.
