Chapter 21 Why Are You So Happy?
Angel Yan subconsciously glanced at the heavy metal sword in his hand as she recalled the sensation of that blade slamming into her forehead, causing her heart to skip a beat.
"Is there really any need for such worry? You just won a major victory, and that little girl will be just fine."
She quickly regained her usual composure, a playful curve touching her lips as she sat down gracefully beside Ge Xiaolun, perched upon the corpse of the Taotie soldier beneath him. She crossed her legs naturally and rested her chin on her hand, studying him.
Under the combined glow of streetlights and distant fires, her exquisite face shimmered with a captivating luster. Her perfect figure was gracefully curved, and her breath, sweet as orchids, carried a clean and refreshing scent. This fragrance drifted into Ge Xiaolun’s lungs, lifting his spirits and causing a lingering sense of melancholy to quietly dissipate.
"I know Rose will be fine. It’s just that after being ambushed, I’m not exactly in the mood for people who lurk around and watch."
As he spoke, Ge Xiaolun casually pressed the muzzle of his god-killing sniper rifle against her forehead, a smirk tugging at his lips. "Tell me, you wretched alien, have you been watching the show from the sidelines since we started fighting?"
Angel Yan found this amusing. Instead of resisting, she reached out with a slender hand to grasp the barrel, pressing it firmly against her own temple with a radiant smile. "Reporting to the Great Power of the Galaxy: I have been lurking nearby ever since you and Du Rose were flying around in the sky. I humbly beg the Great Power of the Galaxy not to pull the trigger~"
She winked as she said this, appearing completely unbothered.
Ge Xiaolun raised an eyebrow, shaking his head inwardly. Good grief, she was the definition of a stalker. But there was no helping it; until he mastered sufficient knowledge, he had no effective way to counter the prying eyes of aliens like Angel Yan. After all, Earth wasn't exactly vast.
"Forget it. Earth is dirt poor right now; I’d better save the bullet."
Shaking his head, he retracted the rifle noncommittally. Teasing his future wife was one thing, but a god-killing rifle was laughable against a third-generation divine body. If he truly wanted to deal with this cheeky angel, he couldn't use such a weapon.
Watching the helicopters draw nearer on the horizon, he said nothing more to her. In truth, aside from the occasional bit of banter, he felt there was nothing left to say. He waited quietly for word from Lian Feng and her team, his expression calm as he began to tally his gains for the day.
"Hey, with a peerless beauty sitting right next to you, why don't you try to get to know her instead of sitting there lost in your own thoughts?"
Angel Yan, however, did not grant him time for reflection. She bumped her shoulder lightly against his and winked.
"Is it wrong to summarize my experiences and lessons?"
Ge Xiaolun clicked his tongue, looking at her with amusement. "Besides, Miss Angel Yan, if you want to chat with someone, you should at least pick the right time, especially considering we aren't exactly close."
Although he knew why she had been spying on him, understood her motives for initiating this conversation, and was well aware that she was scrutinizing him every second, he never looked down on her for her advances. After all, she was his fated partner.
Yet, this woman’s perspective felt far too condescending. She was observing him with a sense of clinical evaluation, treating their interaction with a flippant attitude as if she were merely teasing a child.
"Oh my, you're even capable of self-reflection? I’ll add another ten points for you, little one."
Angel Yan nodded in satisfaction, then raised an eyebrow with interest. "Tell me, what exactly have you realized?"
Ge Xiaolun went expressionless. "I realized that when these high-speed machines enter Earth, keep in mind the principles I provided, when they were small..."
"Huh?" Angel Yan was instantly bewildered. How was it that she understood every word individually, yet they made absolutely no sense when strung together?
"And I believe this spaghetti should be mixed with number forty-two concrete, because the length of this screw might directly affect the distortion of the excavator, and you..."
"Hey, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop!" Angel Yan surrendered. What kind of nonsense was this?
"I just wanted to discuss your combat performance today. I thought it was truly impressive, so why be so standoffish?" She looked at the joking Ge Xiaolun with a mix of exasperation and amusement.
There was one thing she hadn't lied about: she had indeed been watching from the higher reaches of the atmosphere when Ge Xiaolun and Du Rose were flying around aimlessly. After that little girl from Lieyang had casually rejected her offer to help Earth, she had been idle, naturally leading her to observe Ge Xiaolun’s current state. To her, he was the only one on Earth she truly cared about.
Later, witnessing the battle between him and the Taotie—a scene so impressive and surprising that she had felt the urge to share it with her sisters—she couldn't resist coming down to chat and offer a few compliments, only to find him acting disinterested.
"First, as a recruit, you showed astonishing courage, feeling no fear despite facing an unknown enemy."
Without waiting for a response, Angel Yan stood up and began to speak with eloquence.
"Second, as a super-soldier who only awakened a few days ago, you found the combat style best suited to you with incredible speed."
"Using the Anti-Void Engine for crowd control, followed by a lethal strike from a Void Engine sword infused with divine power—the combination of control and offense was tactically perfect. You demonstrated sufficient combat intelligence."
As she spoke, her snow-white fingers brushed against Ge Xiaolun’s young, handsome face, her lips curved in satisfaction. Ge Xiaolun watched her silently, a faint smile playing on his face.
"Third, after taking down that large robot, you instinctively thought to deliver a finishing blow, showing sufficient caution and attention to detail for a recruit."
"Fourth, the moment you were ambushed, you mounted a defense in less than a second, protected your teammate, and then launched a powerful counterattack. That is an astonishing capacity for adaptation."
Angel Yan continued to tease his face as she spoke. Even without an audience, she seemed increasingly pleased with herself.
"If I'm so good, why are you so happy about it?" Ge Xiaolun asked, looking at her with a smile.
"Fifth, in the critical moment when your teammate was gravely injured, you determined the fastest method of rescue in the shortest possible time. This shows you have the ability and the instinct to keep track of those around you—it’s a natural gift for macro-level strategy."
Angel Yan ticked off the points on her fingers, rattling them off one by one. "And then there’s that post-battle reflection of yours..."
"If I perform well enough, will you angels reward me with a beautiful wife or something?" Ge Xiaolun continued, his tone mock-serious.
"Uh..."
Angel Yan faltered for a moment. A second later, she blinked. "If you work hard enough, that might not be impossible~"
